How to Summon Bloody Mary – The Bloody Mary Urban Legend

‘Seven years bad luck,

For those who break it,

Inside out,

This doorway taketh,

Where Demons hide,

And Witches grin,

Waiting there,

To drag you in.’

Mirrors are Scary

Behind the tainted glass of a mirror lies another world, a world very similar to ours, but most definitely not the same. Who knows which rules hold true in that world, and who knows what lurks inside.

‘Eisoptrophobia’ is the fear of mirrors, but even those not seriously inflicted with Eisoptrophobia may be nervous around or fearful of ‘mirrors’. Mirrors have been used to great effect as a portal between plains in many horror movies, and have numerous urban legends surrounding them, not least of which is the tale of ‘Bloody Mary’.

So you’re not afraid of mirrors, right?

Of course you’re not; you’re a big brave adult with real problems to deal with who doesn’t have time to get caught up in such childish nonsense.

So go to the Bathroom and begin staring into the mirror, stare deep into it, at first your thoughts will be of smudged lipstick or the need to shave, but keep staring.

Soon you’ll most likely begin to feel mildly at unease, a feeling you’ll attempt to shake off by reminding yourself how silly it all is, and by flashing yourself a half-smile that your mirror twin flashes right back at you. Keep staring and feel your unease grow, and feel your trust in your own reflection fade, notice the differences between yourselves and feel the chills run down your spine as your reflection stares intently back at you.

Keep staring into your reflections unblinking eyes, and watch as the room around it alters, slight but distinct distortions, little movements normally unnoticed, light and darkness messing with your mind, then gaze over the shoulder of your mirror twin, and notice how they nervously gaze back over yours, fearful of whatever it is, that’s sneaking up behind you.

Bloody Mary the Mirror Witch

Bloody Mary's origin is hazy, some say she is a witch named 'Mary Worth' who was executed for practicing the arts of black magic, some say she is the vengeful spirit of a woman who was horribly disfigured in a car crash, others think she was once a medieval Queen who killed virgins for their blood, in which she bathed.

Whilst the tales of Bloody Mary’s origins may differ significantly, the details of how to summon her usually follow a similar pattern, the repetition of her name a specified number of times spoken whilst looking into a mirror, and then upon being summoned Bloody Mary is said to appear and then attack, kill or drag her summoner back through the mirror to endure a life of unthinkable horror.

How to call or summon Bloody Mary

Should you want to risk your life or endure a life-time of nightmarish torture trapped inside a mirror then the most commonly believed method for the successful summoning of the mirror witch goes as follows:

* To call Bloody Mary you must be in a room devoid of all light. This is best acheived at night to minimise light from the sun entering, but any light from outside or under doors, etc. must be blocked out.

* You must be in the room alone. If you’re part of a group then take turns, but for the summoning to work, it must be just you, and the mirror.

* You must repeat her name ‘Bloody Mary’ thirteen (13) times whilst spinning in front of the mirror.

* To complete the summoning of Bloody Mary after the twelfth repetition you must stop spinning and lean in close towards the mirror, look directly into it, and call out her name for the thirteenth time.

It is at this point that Bloody Mary is then said to appear and attack you, so either you’ll be sorely disappointed, relieved, or set-upon by one very pissed off mirror witch.

Personally, I'll drink a few bloody mary's so I can get drunken master when she arrives from her incorporeal glass shrine.

Good grief! I was petrified of mirrors as a kid! A boy at my primary school, James Hall, told me his Grandma had died after saying some spell or prayer (forget now) whilst looking in a mirror holding a candle, in the dark. Being 6 I immediately focused on her glorified horrible death(she was old and died of old age) and believed James' tale of the devil appearing and taking her soul. I also bypassed the candle and mirror aspect.

I covered every mirror in the house - for years. Drove my dad nuts :)

Over it now though I avoid staring into mirrors or long periods. That's when I start to notice things I don't like. Such as a grey hair or some such. I'm an ancient frog getting ...

I don't think I will try it. I can't handle all that spinning any more. LOL Is there no other way? I don't like me in the mirror anymore. I look so, so old.

Thank you all for your comments.

Is ScottLife still with us, or did Bloody Mary get him? =)

Hey Ixxy, Drunken Master v's Bloody Mary, now that's a fight I'd happily shell out for on pay-per-view.

I'm with you Dohn, I'd make it to the 12th repetition and then bail out, 100% prime chicken here. =)

Freaky story FD, I'm only scared of mirrors when I stop to think about it, I don't think about these things when shaving etc. but I do have a very large mirror in my bedroom (no not on the ceiling, lol) and occasionally when the lights are out, and I catch myself looking into it, I soon do my best to try and think of other things. ;)

Hey Ralwus, LOL at imagining you spinning around in front of the mirror, I'm sure you'd be fine though, your charm would soon melt that mirror witches anger.

Hey Justine (if indeed that is your real name ;) ) glad to see that you're back, mushrooms and mirrors and numerous other intoxicants do not mix, that's true, I've found myself hiding under the bed covers on more than one occasion. =) Will keep a look out for your hubs, you know that I love a good ghost story.

And a special thanks to Keira7, for leaving me 3 comments, lol, all of which are very much appreciated. =)
