Choosing the right foundation is the first step to a successful makeup routine. The right shade would depend on many factors; skin type, natural colour and skin tone. Usually experts use a blend of more than one shade to achieve that perfect finish. Once you have bought the right shade and applied it correctly, you are blessed with a naturally gorgeous look.

Types of Foundations

Water-Based Foundation

These are oil-in-water emulsions with only a little oil. The oil component reduces the drift of colour. They are for people with dry to normal skin.

Oil-Free Foundation

These have no animal, vegetable or mineral oil. They contain oily substances that are silicone based. The pigment is dissolved in water and other solvents. These are best for oily skin.

Water-Free Foundation

These are waterproof oil; alcohol and synthetic Esther’s are combined and then mixed with waxes to form a cream. These foundations may be opaque enough to be used to cover scars.

Oil-Based Foundation

These are water-oil emulsions, which contain pigments in the oil. The water evaporates after the foundation is applied to the skin, leaving the pigment and oil on the face. This has a moisturizing effect and is useful for those who have dry skin. The colour has good staying power. The foundation is easy to apply, as there is time to play with the application before it sets which takes a few minutes.

Choosing the Right Shade

If you want to look brighter than your skin shade, choose a shade brighter than your original sin tone. The shade, which we select, has to be again according to our skin type. For example, if you have an oily skin tone, then you should go for a matte or a mousse foundation. If your skin type is dry then go for a liquid based foundation. If your skin is the combination of the two, then opt for the mixture of both that will retain its moisture and at the same time control the oiliness. The day foundation has to be very light and matte while the foundation for the night should be shiny and glossy with a shimmery liquid base.

Correct Method of Application…

Foundation can be applied with a sponge, a buffer brush or with fingers. This again depends on the skin type. If the skin has lots of blemishes, then one has to apply a matte based foundation. Blend it well with the help of your fingertips. If the skin is flawless, apply the liquid foundation with the help of a buffer brush and blend it with the help of a wet sponge. If the foundation has not been well blended, then it can look blotchy and patchy. The base has to be applied very evenly otherwise the skin tone will tend to look uneven. Remember to apply a moisturizer before applying a foundation for the night. And always apply a sunscreen which is 60% SPF before applying the foundation for the day.

Benefits of wearing Foundation…

Foundation covers the blemishes, dark circles and other skin flaws. It makes you look fresher, prettier, and brighter and gives you a very even skin tone. If you want to go for a bronze look, then you have to apply tree shades darker shimmery liquid foundation than your original skin tone.

Basic Foundation Tutorial

Important Dos and don’ts…

Always cleanse your skin with the hydrant-wet wipes. And spray a moisture mineral water based skin spray before applying the base.

Hot Ideas!!!

  • If your foundation is too thick, dilute it by adding some astringent, toner or even water so that it’s sheer enough to let your skin show through… for that natural look.
  • Rubbing ice over face before applying foundation makes it stay for long.

Applying Foundation

  • Apply moisturizer to your face.
  • Using the flat, smooth surface of round synthetic sponge, pour some foundation on the sponge and apply it in dots and dab all over the face. You can use your fingers to apply it. Or take out a small blob of foundation on the palm of your hand. As foundation dries up fast, dot foundation patch by patch on the face.
  • Blend the foundation in upward and downward direction.
  • Don’t forget to cover small areas like creases of nose, under your eyebrows and along the jaw line.
  • To soak up excess oil and for a natural look, blot the face with a tissue after applying the foundation.

Foundation First

  • Foundation, the base layer of flawless skin, helps makeup last longer and colours (like blush) look truer than if you had applied them on a clear face. The new options are so light and sheer, no one will know you are wearing it, there is no other way to pick up the perfect shade; you need to test it before you buy. Hold the bottle next to your face and narrow down the closest options, hen swipe each where skin is most uneven (usually your cheek); if it blends in, you are set. Once you have nailed the hue, add a bit along your forehead, nose, chin, and cheekbones, and then blend it outward to help it disappear.
  • Face foundations are used to cover skin blemishes and acne, as well as to even out and give colour to your face. The end result a perfect looking skin!!!!
