Why clean an iPod?

Just like any other electronic device you own, even the iPod needs to be cleaned every once in awhile.  When you think about how often you use an iPod, plus the amount of grime that sticks to your fingertips, it is amazing your iPod is not as dirty as it should be.  Since you use the device all the time, you should take the time clean it to keep it new, shiny and free from germs.  Cleaning an iPod takes no time at all, so take the time to do it when you get the chance to keep your iPod in working order.

Tools to clean an iPod

In order to clean an iPod, you want some rubbing alcohol, a few Q-Tips, some paper towels and some Windex.  Make sure you unplug your iPod's headphones and set them aside; you can clean your headphones, too, while you are at it.  You might as well take the time to clean everything related to your iPod so it all works at peak efficiency.  Cleaning headphones is easy.  You can do them before you clean your iPod or afterwards, just make sure you take the time to clean them, too.

How to clean an iPod

Dip the Q-Tips in rubbing alcohol and drip off any excess, then take that Q-Tip and clean around all the edges of the iPod and over the click wheel.  Be gentle as you do it and take your time.  Then, wipe the iPod down with a dry paper towel.  Take another paper towel afterwards and spray some Windex on it and use that to wipe down the rest of the iPod.  You can then take a third paper towel and more vigorously clean the screen, too.  Make sure there are no smudges on the screen or other streaks.  Finally, wipe the iPod down one more time with a dry paper towel and your iPod will be as good as new.
