How to Conceal Your TV
81
Standard Methods
I don't know about you, but I hate the way a TV looks in an otherwise meticulously decorated room. It drives me nuts. Especially in rooms designed in a Victorian or otherwise traditional style. The TV looks incredibly out of place and I just cannot fathom why people would just leave it out.
I know, I know. Entertainment centers are expensive. They do a great job of concealing your TV, while still looking good in your room's decor. These are not your only option. There are several more cost effective ways to keep your home decor looking neat, tidy, and cohesive.
More Innovative Methods
I've heard some really interesting ideas for concealing TV's and other electronics. Some people mount their TV's inside a recess in their wall, then fix paintings or wall tapestries on a board that swings open to reveal the TV inside. That actually looks really cool, and works well with any kind of TV. As long as it fits in the recess, you are good to go.
Along a similar vein, some people use a curtain instead of a rigid board. I spoke with a customer who had rigged up a large wall tapestry to a system of pulleys that lifted it up into a space in the ceiling to reveal the rather large projector screen he had installed. I thought that sounded pretty interesting, and cost effectively speaking, it was still cheaper than buying an entertainment center. Plus, wall art looks way better than a hunk of wood ever can (in my eyes, anyway).
If you are handy or just like building things, you can easily build your very own entertainment center or TV cabinet. Wood is not cheap, but building it yourself can save you quite a bit of money. Also, it will probably be of most solid construction than most entertainment centers in stores. I'm not knocking the nice ones...just the cheap mass produced ones. If you've got the tools and the know how, you can create a truly unique television cabinet that you will use forever and pass down to the next generation.

I couldn't agree more! My fiancee bought a 60" Plasma TV, the thing is gigantic and is a big ugly focal point in our living room. I took it upon myself to search the web for an entertainment center that would tone the TV down a little bit (using our new joint bank account of course) and I found an awesone one with free shipping! Check out our beautiful entertainment center:http://www.shopentertainmentcenters.com/entertainm I am so happy "we" made the investment!
