Twitter Traffic Got You Stumped?

Green Light GO Tweam!
Green Light GO Tweam!

Creating Traffic for ANY Website Using Twitter

I've decided to share with you some of the Twitter secrets that have fueled my growth on Twitter over my multitude of accounts (12 so far). Most of my Twitter experience has been in testing Which approach works best.

Cutting to the Chase--- What is Twitter?

Twitter by definition is a social network where you create relationships through conversations (Tweets).

If you want to be successful on Twitter then get it out of your mind right now that by having the most followers on the planet that you have somehow become the most effective marketer on Twitter. Your follower numbers do matter but they are not your end all be all definition of success.

Now I've experienced the best way to use Twitter for driving traffic to your website or blogg or Hubpage is to Tweet your link with a small description and a mini review of what the link entails in response to someone elses question about that topic. You will often see a high percentage of your followers click your link if it is this form of response and not spammed out into the void for the sake of it.

I use a URL shrink-er to help save space in my tweets as well as with that shrink-er I have the ability to see how many clicks I've received on any number of my links I've posted. This tool is very useful in split testing your ideas as you may find that your followers or target market responds differently.

Just as each person is unique and valuable you must also treat your followers with value instead of units that will buy your product or read your article you must reach out and truly connect with them that is why it is a social network and has been created to share human emotion and feelings instead of simply being automated and your account and followers force fed irritating spam.

So with this grounded beginning for your Twitter account(s) and dedication to bringing quality content and responses to your audience and friends then you will be able to take it a few more steps farther.

  1. Create or have a friend or free service create a custom Twitter background for your profiles that has your tag-line and maybe more about you as well as your website name and purpose there on the graphic.
  2. Put your Website above your bio as many many people click the link to find out the core of what that individual is all about and by doing so you must remember to post your most enticing web-page or article to keep your new follower on the clicked link.
  3. If you do decide to do an Auto DM Message make sure to address your new follower directly and be positive in your interaction making sure they feel welcome and that you are glad to meet them and hope they will tweet with you soon. NEVER include any link in direct DMs it is seen as rude and inappropriate for a first contact. (You wouldn't hand a new friend a packet full of brochures would you?)
  4. MOST IMPORTANT TIP: This is the Golden Rule for all Social Networks--- Treat others as you would wish to be treated. If you treat them as cattle and not people then when you try to talk and create conversations you will find that your followers are cold and do not convert to clicks to your site regardless of however many of them you have as followers.
  5. P.S. Do not add yourselves to train following lists they do not help you get any true followers of quality I have done tests on using the trains and I have even paid for a few of them to build one of my test accounts and they result in nothing but followers who are spamming the Tweet-Follow/adder/train URL. NOTE* If you have added yourself to those lists and wish to get off of the list then simply change your password and never go back to the website. The Tweet Train operates by using your password and logging itself in on your account to post its repetitious link.

There are many ways to grow your Traffic but these are my secrets and they have allowed me to build a Twitter Profile of over 7,000 people and they are people that I consider to be of quality. Also please feel free to connect with me through Facebook if you found this Article useful at Brian's Facebook or you could always read other familiar posts on my other hubs or at our YouBrandInc Blog.

Those are great tips Brian, I would add to the auto DM that if you do that make sure it is a good icebreaker and is truly good.

I've noticed that this hub is consistently receiving far more traffic than any of my other hubs thus far. I would ask that people please bookmark and share this hub for others to learn this knowledge as well. It truthfully is a compilation of over 4 months of Twitter research in a simple to read Hub and most online marketers want you to have to pay for this information which I don't believe you should have to.

Thank you all once again for making this Hub so popular so quickly :)

P.S. Please let me know if there are other specific Social Media Websites you would like written on in this fashion as I have experience on over 20+ other platforms as well.

Sincerely,

Brian Fanslau

This is good advice actually. I was losing followers and maybe it was because I wasn't being friendly enough. Nice hub. :)

One good trick is to get lots of followers and then have contests on your site. The tweet about the contest will get them to come.

As ever, internet strategies work when the effort is put in regularly.

With Twitter, that effort is focused on 140 characters and so requires small consistent effort that actually engages with someone else.

Blogs require more time put into quality content and yet may not engage with anyone.

Great Idea for the contest :) Yes 140 is key to be continuing to engage and call your audience to action. A blog offers a place for you to truly divulge much greater value to your readership.

People new to affiliate marketing almost always overlook the fact that in order to make money there has to be a real live human being on the other end taking an action. And the only real way to get them to take an action is to create value in your offer that is greater than their avoidance. Don't forget about the fact that it's a real person you are dealing with when you broadcast or publish. To be honest I am one of the people who is not a big twitter fan, although I do have accounts. But I found the advice on your list quite useful for those who are going to try and use twitter for marketing.

Brian thanks for the hub - I've got to admit I don't understand Twitter or Facebook or any of this social networking scene (too old or too much of a hermit probably) but can you tell me what people want from Twitter ? Are they bored ? Are they looking for romance ? Do they want to feel important ? Are they addicted to noise ? And also how do you know who are twittering with and does it matter ? How many Demi Moore's are there on Twitter ? Lots of questions and I could probably come up with a load more but any answers would be gratefully received.

Sure. Twitter is all about conversations. Think of Twitter like a see of people all speaking. Now you add people you know (follow) and begin listening to their tweets, OR if you are like myself who now has upwards of 7k+ people I am following and find it hard to hear the people you want to, ORGANIZE those people by tagging their tweets as favorites or use Tweet deck etc... to group your "elite" friends.

People do use twitter for simple vanity and useless stuff but some use it to track down leaders and new reports that have just been released etc... you can track relative keywords using Seismic Desktop and watch people you may have never met and start speaking with them on keywords you are interested with.

Facebook is much more closed as a network and I use Twitter to "graduate" people I like into my Facebook network.

By the way many poor marketers are spamming Twitter and ruining the experience at this point and making it frustrating for the rest of us real people to simply be ourselves.

I would love to answer more of your questions and I will be expanding this Hub as I continue to learn more about Twitter myself. Hit me up! Http://twitter.come/brianfanslau
