Lobsters for Christmas Dinner?
I have consumed my fair share of lobsters, that's for sure! Growing up in New England means that we eat lobster all the time. In my family, it is tradition to have lobsters for Christmas Dinner. I really enjoy the flavor and texture of my most favorite seafood. I know there are some folks out there who don't care for it, but have you ever had it cooked the right way? In my opinion, there is only ONE way to cook lobster; to boil or steam it. I occasionally have to eat lobster dishes in restaurants and at parties and I can't stand them. My favorite way to eat lobster is to crack it out of it's shell all by myself (I hate it when restaurants do this for you) and then to submerge each luscious piece into a warm bath of butter and balsamic vinegar. Vinegar?!?! Most people have never heard of this combination, but it is so fantastic. My grandfather used to eat his lobster this way and it is the only way I like it.
If you've had lobster before in other dishes or had it grilled (ewwww rubbery!) then I really encourage you to try it fresh and steamed with a side of butter. If you do not live on the New England coast, then lobster can be a little expensive. Why not try it for a special occasion? You can find lots of seafood sellers online that pack with dry ice to ensure that you can have a fresh New England dinner right at your own house. Some companies will mail them pre-cooked, but it is so easy to do it yourself.
If you are able to buy them fresh and local, but are unsure of how to cook the red guys, then you may be interested in the several videos that I've compiled below. These videos will show you how to cook and eat a lobster. The first goes over the boiling method, the second is a very good video that explains how to "shuck" and eat a lobster.
After you check out the videos, make sure to edutain yourself with some fun lobster trivia below!
