How to Create Layer Sets in Photoshop
70Step-by-Step Layer Set Instructions
I have been using Photoshop for many years and it never ceases to amaze me how little I know. Every time I come across a Photoshop how-to blog or article, I learn something new. One thing I learned a few years ago, that is very helpful, was how to use layer sets. Not only is it simple to use, it helps organize a complex graphic or photo. Layer sets work like a filing system, where the layer sets are the file drawer and the layers are the individual files. Here is a break down of how to create a layer set:
- With your layer window open, click on the file folder icon at the bottom of the layer window
- A new layer folder, or set, appears automatically titled 'Group 1'
- Double click on the 'Group 1' text inside the layer folder and edit the text to the name of your choice. In my example, I titled my layer set 'tag line_left'. *tip: sometimes when you double click on the layer set a pop-up appears, you can change the text here as well.
- Select which layers will be a part of this layer set and drag and drop them into the folder
That's it! Making multiple layer sets is very useful for many reasons including turning off a layer set or moving the whole set to another file. Layer sets make duplication easy too. Below is a visual to help you out.
