What is Child Discipline?

Discipline is often confused as being the same as punishment, but it is different. Child discipline is the way parents can teach and train their children to help them learn self discipline and self control. Disciplining kids teaches them responsibility. Through child discipline parents help their children to grow into responsible adults who are respected by others and take ownership of their actions.

Here are some pointers to help you grasp how to discipline kids effectively.

Start Disciplining Kids Early

It is preferable to start child discipline as early as possible. Don't delay in teaching kids what is appropriate behavior. When you start disciplining children when they are still babies they learn good behavior habits. You knowit's time to start disciplining when you see your baby looking to see your reaction when they deliberately throw or drop a toy. A parent's response to this type of action sets a precedent for future behavior.

A parent needs to respond to this kind of action with a firm "NO" and shake of the head. Whenever the baby repeats the action parents should repeat this response. In this way the baby will learn that when the toy is dropped or deliberately thrown, the parent does not respond with the usual smile or approval. When a parent responds positively to the toy being deliberately thrown or dropped, it encourages the baby to repeat the action to get more attention.

Use Consequences with Child Discipline

Consequences should be given when kids do not do as they are told, or ignore previously given boundaries or rules. Children need to understand before they make the choice to ignore previously set rules and boundaries, what the consequences wil be. When implementing any consequences it is important to explain clearly why the consequence is being given. Consequences are an effective way of disciplining kids, especially when the parent keeps calm and explains firmly why the consequences are being implemented.

Parents should avoid shouting when discipling their kids. If parents shout when dealing with child behavior problems. children soon learn to ignore the parent, and raise their voices..

Parents who discipline kids by shouting and yelling usually don't get the results they want

Discipline Kids Using Choices

Children can be trained in choices as soon as they are old enough to understand and follow instructions. When a parent gives choices child learns to have more control over the life and can start to develop self-discipline. For example if your kid wants to play video games, but hasn't put away the toys, you could give the choice of putting away the toys and then playing video games, or not playing video games. By choosing to put away the toys, the kid also chooses to play video games.

The Most Important Aspects of Disciplining Kids

When disciplining kids, the important thing to bear in mind is to be consistent in following through with the consequences decided upon in your discipine method. Whatever your child discipline strategy is, it needs to be fair and consistent and be recognized as such by each one of your children in the family. When parents do this, they earn the respect from their children..

When planning how to discipline kids, remember to think of discipline as teaching and training and not as punishment. . The bottom line is that when dealing with child behavior problems, your discipline strategy should always be approached in love and done in the best interests of the child
