For staying dry & warm and also to protect from heavy cold temperatures dressing a child appropriately will allow them to feel comfortable for the upcoming Fall & Winter Season.  According to the local weather(which normally varies widely in winter) dress the children in layers.

Always long sleeve T-shirts or turtle neck shirts or sweater is advisable for this season. Instead of cotton dresses, better use wool, flannel, corduroy, denim, jeans or heavy knitted dresses which will be better since these materials will keep the body warm always. First list out the items needed for this fall & winter and go to a thrift store if you really have a thrift budget during the present economical conditions.  For simpler items like hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, etc., purchase inexpensive brands, since there is a chance of children easily missing these items very frequently.  Before going for shopping for the Winter, unpack all the existing items at home and inspect them whether they are in a reusable condition. If not so, kindly do spend some extra dollars for Laundery for drycleaning the old ones or mending your old boots. By this way, one can plan a very economical budget. There are so many ways to update our child's wardrobe without spending a fortune.  This does not mean that we have to make our child the replica of last year's reject.  We have to go with the present trends also.  By adding one or two trendy winter outfittings newly one can mix and match with the existing accessories and make a new trend.  

 In dry and snowy conditions, winter jackets helps a lot. If not a stylish one, water resistant jacket with a hood is advisable for this Fall & Winter. In severe winter conditions during the season, Long or waist length coats really works better always. If the child happens to travel for school and other places in distance, snow suit will make them dry and warm for a long time.  Better use this only when they go outdoors. Finally, the Boot. Fleece-lined boots are advisable because fleece keeps the feet warm & dry. Rubber soled boots for providing good traction in slippery conditions and boots with deep treads in the sole for providing ground stability.
