The major purpose of a computer is to store, manage and maintain the data in files. File system is responsible for all these operations like organizing the files and allowing the operating system to locate the files stored on hard drive. In this way, file system is a key component of any computer system, without which you can not access data from hard drive. HFS, FAT, NTFS, EXT2, NSS and EXT3 are some examples of the file system, which are usable with various operating systems. But in some situations, the file system may get damaged and all of the data stored on hard drive become inaccessible. At this point, the hard drive becomes RAW and requires Data Recovery to be resolved.

The file system may get damaged due to a number of reasons such as virus infection, user mistakes, power outages and other similar reasons and may cause following consequences:

  1. · Truncation of files and lost data.
  2. · Strange error message symptomatic of the file system damage, although statements might vary with type.
  3. · Boot failure.
  4. · Some issues in general performance such as modifying the files and directories.
  5. · Sudden disappearance of files or incorrect data in files.

There are some common symptoms that indicate the file system corruption and might require Data Recovery. Identifying and resolving file system issues is important and thus all of the operating system provide repair tools (like Chkdsk, Vrepair, fsck and Disk Utility) to correct minor inconsistencies.

When these utilities fail to resolve file system issues due to severe corruption, you need to set up and new file system by formatting the hard drive and reinstalling the operating system. Although, formatting the hard drive resolves most of the issues but it also have a disadvantage. It removes all of the data from hard drive and results into severe data loss situations and put you in need of Hard Drive Recovery.

The recovery is best possible with the help of advanced and powerful third party applications, known as Data Recovery software. These software are particularly designed to thoroughly scan the entire hard drive and retrieve all of the lost data from it. These software vary from operating system to operating system and their corresponding file system to file system.
