How to Ensure Success from a Healthy Weight Loss Eating Plan
60Introduction
Weight loss is an increasingly relevant topic in our fast food friendly society and diet products and plans are top selling items. However, most people fail to lose weight on various advertised programs for a variety of reasons but most often because they underestimate their own capacity for self sabotage. Our minds are very powerful and we have subconscious programs operating that can be in opposition to what we want to consciously achieve. Furthermore, our emotions can be influenced by our diets and if we are not getting enough nutrition to meet our body’s needs we can experience a roller coaster of emotions that end up driving us back to our favorite comfort foods. A healthy weight loss eating plan is central to successful weight loss, but without taking the time to deal with the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of being overweight, most of us are predisposed to fail.
The first steps to successfull weight loss
The first step to successful weight loss is to know the difference between a wish and a decision. You might want to be fit and slim, but are you willing to do what is required to achieve your goal. Before you can even answer this question, you need to take some time to observe your own behaviors. Don’t judge yourself or get upset, just pay close attention to what and when you eat. Keep a diary and record your habits. If you are eating while watching television, write this down too. If you are feeling depressed before you hit the ice cream, make sure you record this. Before you can adopt a weight loss eating plan that will work for you, you have to understand yourself. For example, if you eat twice as much food as you realize when you watch television, you can make the decision to never eat when the television is on. Keep your eating diary for two weeks and then sit down and look for patterns. You may find this process uncomfortable but it is simply an information gathering exercise. Look for triggers for over eating or eating fattening foods and not them down separately. How can you avoid these triggers? Also pay attention to how you feel shortly after eating particular foods.
thought diary?
It can also be helpful to keep a thought diary. Of course, no one can record every single thought they think, however it can be very revealing to pay attention to repetitive thoughts that make you feel bad and turn to food. While it is certainly true that willpower is necessary to maintain self discipline and lose weight, wanting it or even trying to have it, will not give it to you. True willpower comes from overcoming conditioning and reprogramming old unhelpful beliefs with new, healthier ones. Stress and how we handle it, self esteem, confidence and our emotions can all influence our tendency to gain weight and our ability to lose it. Even the best weight loss eating plan will not be effective if you haven’t dealt with the underlying causes of obesity. To successfully lose weight, you need to make a decision to manage all aspects of your life including your health and to reprogram your subconscious mind where necessary. To attain your ideal weight it is important to address thoughts, beliefs and behaviors.

Body mind & spirit
Having said this, there is no doubt that if you consume more calories than you use you will gain weight. However, a calorie controlled weight loss eating plan isn’t necessarily a healthy one. More than anything, a healthy lifestyle is the key to losing weight permanently. A nutritious diet, daily exercise, and a happy disposition work together to bring your body, mind and spirit into balance, giving you the best possible foundation for successful weight loss.
