Why should you know how to explain electronics issues?

The biggest problem when trying to get customer service with electronics issues is trying to explain exactly what is wrong.  If you know ahead of time exactly what the problem is, and how to tell someone, it goes a long way.  If you do not know how to explain your issue, you may not be able to get it fixed the way it needs to be.  Since you cannot explain what is wrong, a technician may have to take longer to look at it and that is money out of your pocket.  The quicker they know the problem, the clearer you explain it, the sooner your device will be back in your hands and working.

How to explain electronics issues

The easiest way to explain an electronics issue is to do so in language you understand.  Do not try to get too technical.  Simply explain the issue as you see it.  If you need to, write down what is going on and present that to the technician.  Describe everything that is going on, including under what circumstances the issue arises.  That way the technician knows what to recreate to see the issue happen with their own eyes.  From there, they can fully grasp the situation and begin the repair process for you.

What to do if you cannot explain an electronics issue

If something is going on with your device that you do not know how to explain, that is okay. Simply highlight what you were doing when it happened so that the technician can try and recreate the scenario. If that does not work, you may have to give a little bit more detail that goes over your head. Just try and explain what happened, what you saw and how it happened the best you can. The more details you can give, however irrelevant they may seem will help save your device.  Take the time to truly figure out what you can explain, do so and then watch as your device goes under repair.
