Forums are the ideal place to help with your traffic generation strategy. Just about all forums on the internet are free. Forums are a place where like minded individuals hang out and share information, experiences, advice, and sometimes develop long lasting friendships and business arrangements.

So how do you use forums to generate trageted traffic? Check out the list of tips below for ideas to help you jump start your traffic generation plans:

Tip #1 Create a Good Username: The first thing that you need to do is choose a username that is descriptive of the type of person that you are or that describes specifically what kind of website or offerrings that you have. Something like "DateDoctor" if you are in an online dating forum and you have a website that promotes helping people find true love in online dating. Whatever it is make it eye catching, funny, or even outrageous.

Tip #2 Create a Good Profile: Almost all forums will allow you to create a profile and provide as much or as little information about yourself as you would like to give out. I suggest that at a minimum you provide your name or pen name, a good contact email address, business address (if you have one), and your website URL.

The email address that you use doesn't have to be your primary email address. It can be another address, but one that you will check on a regular basis. This is important so that you can respond to posts.

Tip #3 Create a Signature: Probably the most important thing that you will do is to create a signature. A signature is absolutely critical to generating traffic from forums. Use the signature as a call to action. You can use the signature to give an invitation to visit your website or describe the benefits that readers will get from visiting your site. Make sure that you place your URL in the signature. You may want to give the full http address in the link and in the text. For example: http://www.FreeTraffic.com

Tip #4 Your Avatar: The forum that you join may or may not allow you to have a unique avatar. An avatar is a small picture icon that is displayed alongside your posts. Use your website logo or a picture of yourself. This will help to personalize your posts.

Tip #5 Interact: You must be active on the forums. The more active you are on the forums the more chances you will get to generate traffic to your website. Seek out threads that require responses about things that you are knowledgeable about and can provide valuable input.

If you are new to the forum you may want to make a short introduction in your response to a thread stating briefly who you are and what you do. There is no need to place a link to your site in your posts ever...remember your site link is in your thread.

Make a habit of welcoming all new members. This is an easy way to increase your post count and make yourself known to more members of the forum.

Tip #6 Showcase Your Expertise: Make a habit of looking for threads where you can make a contribution and showcase your knowledge. Other members may not trust you initially, but if you make good posts and solicite feedback you will begin to build your credibility over time. Share your expertise and never flame someone or be unnecessarily harsh or overly critical.

Tip #7 Forum Marketplaces: If you join a forum that has a marketplace be sure to advertise you websites products and services. Make sure that you give forum members special discounts and offer other promotional offers. Forum members will usually buy products from other members more readily.

Tip #8 Posting for Fun: Every post that you make doesn't have to be about making a sale. It will be more like fun and less like work if you truly enjoy making posts in the forum that you join. Look for interesting or fun topics where you can make a contribution to the conversation with nothing more in mind than advancing the thread.
