Get Your Baby To Sleep Through The Night

If you are having difficulty in putting your precious one to sleep, do not worry because all parents face the same dilemma. There are ways to get your baby to sleep through the night but you must first understand their sleeping cycle. It is a known fact that infants need to have more sleep as compared to adults. Infants are expected to experience inconsistent sleeping pattern during the first few months of life. Although newborns sleep more than 16 hours a day, they do a lot of stretches every one to two hours. Their body will slowly adapt to a more consistent sleeping schedule as they mature.

Developing a proper sleeping rhythm will greatly help to establish good sleeping habits. Parents should be aware that night waking is caused by many factors. Hunger, feelings of discomfort, sleep anxiety and illness are the most common causes of interrupted sleep in infants. Sleep must come naturally therefore it should never be forced. Start by providing them with a quiet and relaxing environment to minimize environmental stimulants which contribute in the frequency of night waking. Play a soothing lullaby as you rock them to sleep, establishing a peaceful atmosphere helps your young one to easily settle to sleep. Also, ensure that they are dressed comfortably and room temperature should neither be too cold or hot. Reducing environmental factors which often cause sleep disruption aid to get your baby to sleep through the night.

Baby Sleep Patterns

Tracking down their sleeping pattern is a helpful gauge to provide your baby with a good nights rest. You must carefully observe the frequency of day naps, how long does it take before they wake up, what time do they usually feel sleepy and how frequently do they wake up at night. Noting these important factors significantly helps to point out the causes of a disruptive nights rest. It is highly encouraged doing most of your baby’s activities during the day. Be consistent and stick with your daytime routine so that their bodies can easily cope with it, this makes it easier for them to dose off during the night. But try not to exhaust them too much as this may cause difficulty in settling them down.

Increasing your nursing frequency during the day and early in the evening is another good way to avoid waking them up in the middle of the night. On the average, infants need to be nursed at least 8 to 12 times a day. Providing them with enough nutrition during the day helps to space out their night time feeding. Although it is normal to have cluster feeding during the night, creating a more consistent and frequent daytime nursing routine fulfills their nutritional needs for the day which reduce the need of feeding them at night.

Baby Sleep Advice

Overcome Baby Sleeping Problems

The self-soothing method is said to be the best way to overcome baby sleeping problems during the night.

Experts believe that teaching babies to sleep on their own without having to rock them or nurse them down to sleep is one way of imposing a good sleeping habit. This also prevents them from getting accustomed to sleep associations which later contribute to developing sleep difficulties if not fulfilled.
