Cheap Car Insurance for Young Drivers

Learning how to get the cheapest car insurance for young drivers will depend on many factors besides shopping around for the best price. First, you will want to know how much coverage your teenage driver actually needs and how much you can afford. Of course, you will always want the best type of car insurance coverage for child. However, financial pressure for other debts such as mortgage, car payments, and bad credit card debt can get in the way of being able to afford full coverage car insurance for your child. If the young driver in your family is starting to turn that age where he/she will be getting behind the wheel of the car, there is no time like the present to start saving up and preparing for your teenager’s car insurance policy. Things that you start doing now, might make the car insurance policy cheaper for your young driver in the future.

First, make sure your teen knows the rules of the road at an early age. When you are driving, tell them the rules and why you are doing certain things. The more they know at an early age, the better educated they will be when it’s time to start driving. Also, your child will learn a lot of driving habits based on how you drive. You are your teen’s role model and every time you speed through a yellow light, your teen is observing this. After awhile, your bad habits will be reflected onto your teen because since you are doing it, they will think it’s an appropriate thing to do as well.

Start getting your teen involved with making them responsible for some of the insurance. There are good student discounts that are applicable for students that have a GPA of around 3.0 (B average) or better. Good student drivers tend to be more responsible in life and it will be reflected in their driving style. This is a great incentive as it will benefit your teen and you in two ways. They will get good grades and you will get a discount on the insurance policy. Here’s how the incentive work, if your teen does not get a B average, than make him/her pay the discount difference. Getting a 3.0 average in high school is fairly easy to do and this will give your student an extra incentive to do well in school.

Generally, the way to get the cheapest car insurance for young drivers is by putting them under your insurance policy. If your teen were to have their own policy, then they won’t get as many discounts because when you add-on someone to your policy, all of the applicable discounts that you get on your individual policy will trickle down to your child.

Since it’s already hard enough getting cheaper car insurance for young drivers, having your teen get into a car accident or a few speeding tickets will jack of their premiums even higher. Making your teenager go into a driver’s education course will ensure that they get the practice and knowledge to ensure that they follow the rules of the road. Even worse than speeding tickets are a underage DUI for your teen. Have an appropriate drinking and driving talk with your child and if they must drink, make sure that they have a designated driver.

If you do not want to have your teenager on your policy, then make sure to shop around for the best rates. Online websites such as Netquote.com will allow you to compare quotes from over fifteen different insurance companies. Lastly, it is almost inevitable that your teenager is going to get in some sort of fender bender (statistics are against your teen).  Look a go to a comprehensive car insurance comparison website. Don’t make this worse by purchasing them a really nice car that they will just end up crashing anyways. Instead, if you really are tight on money, get a car that runs well doesn’t cost a fortune. Don’t buy your kid a sports car too as this will jack up your premium. Instead, get them a reliable automobile and only get liability insurance for the car. If your child does well with the first car, then upgrade them to a better vehicle once they have learned how to drive responsibly. This is the best way to get the cheapest insurance for young drivers.
