How to Get Online with 1 Hour a Day
63How to build a site in a week
Day 1:
Get down all your ideas, don't erase. Write. Write. Write. Go ahead and revert back to pencil and papyrus, don't even worry about the computer.
Day 2:
Repeat Day 1. Seriously, don't skip or rush this. On Day 1 you'll come up with some great ideas, that in light of a new day you won't admit to your own dog.
Day 3:
Refine. Take your favorite notes and brainstorm them out to what the final vision would look like. If you thought a Travel advice site would be good, then expand: am I reviewing 3 or 5 destinations or will I research 90? Will it be general information and statistics or should I match vacation purpose with destinations?
Day 4:
Get it online. I recommend Office Live, if for no other reason because it's free with no commitment for the first year. Spend this hour registering your domain name, setting up your e-mail address and maybe putting a header up. That's it. You're done for now.
Day 5:
Upload. Put your mapped out plan on a page-your site will have its own learning curve, because there's nothing else like it! Physically arrange links. Add content.
You can spend an infinite amount of time on this step, but slow and steady wins the race. Limit yourself to one hour today. Don't burn yourself out (believe me you are susceptible.)
Day 6+:
Repeat Day 5 as necessary. We both know any arrangement that took 1 hour to set up and complete... needs work. You will find work to be done.
The catch with this step? It never ends.
Really.
Day 7: TRAFFIC!
Now that you're set up, it's time to show the world. Implementation This will take much, much longer than an hour. A good place to start is with metatags and keywords. Don't forget, your Page Titles are important in SEO (Search Engine Optimization.) Avoid labeling the obvious (like "my site's home page"--every website has a homepage.)
