How to Get Rid of a Yeast Infection without Medicine?
76Yeast infections are the most common quasi-STI among women and are often difficult to get rid of successfully.
This is because yeast infections have a nasty habit of coming back, much more severely, after each bout of treatment, particularly topical treatments.
This, in turn, is due to the nature of yeast to acquire resistance - through a biological process beyond the scope of this article - to individual medications.
Many oral and topical medications are available but they are designed to only provide temporary relief by clearing up the redness and stopping the itching and pain for a period of time, the fungus however is still inside of you.
The good news is that, getting rid of a yeast infection can be done in the comfort of your home - without medicine. In fact, some of the simplest yet most effective remedies are available right in your kitchen.
Home Remedies for Yeast Infection
One, surprisingly simple remedy for yeast infection is to do something doctors have been telling us to do for decades - drink more water.
Yeast infections are fed by sugar and drinking enough water ensures that your body is able to rid itself of excess sugar, thus depriving the yeast of its "food". Of course, you need to drink plenty of water, much more than the recommended 8 glasses of water a day.
Even if drinking water alone doesn't get rid of the yeast, it does you no harm, does a world of good for your body, and can't have side effects!
While water is good to cleanse any unwanted bacteria that cause yeast infection, garlic has long been known as a natural, powerful anti-yeast remedy that can be used safely by most people to get rid of a yeast infection.
Applying a garlic capsule to the affect area will provide hours of comfortable relief from the worst symptoms, as will the swallowing of the same.
Another natural remedy is unsweetened yogurt. The bacteria in yogurt (good bacteria) kill the yeast, and it can be applied in many ways. One is to simply apply the yogurt to the outside of the affected area to counteract the effect of the infection. Alternatively, a tampon can be dipped in the yogurt and then inserted.
One point to note is that moisture can make a yeast infection worse so it's best not to leave the yogurt on longer than it has to be. In other words, when the symptoms disappear, remove it.
The above are just some of the ways to get rid of a yeast infection without medicine. Whatever remedy you choose, it's important to follow it diligently as yeast infections return very quickly and are often worse than before.
With proper care, however, they can be successfully treated. It's also comforting to know that a number
of prescriptions or over the counter products are available if these home remedies
should prove inadequate.
