MSN Bing - Low-lying fruit

One of my best friends is a millionaire several times over. He made his money in the stock market and has an excellent sense for business, online and offline. When I was strugglying trying to make money in the stock market he always suggested that I "Go after the low-lying fruit." I struggled to apply the concept to stocks because I suck at stock trading. All he was trying to tell me was to go after stocks that nobody else was looking at yet and that's where you make you money.

How does low-lying fruit apply to Internet marketing and getting traffic from search engines?

Basically, here's the deal: Google is the biggest search engine out there and all of us Internet marketers are struggling to get on the first page. It's EXTREMELY tough. Maybe you'll get a link up there for a few days or weeks. But if you site isn't extremely informative and 100% original content you're likely to get de-indexed within a few weeks or months. However, there are two other search engines you can focus on that are LOW-LYING FRUIT: Yahoo! and MSN. In this hub I wont focus on Yahoo! but I'll show you how you can get traffic and get your sites indexed by MSN.

What is MSN? MSN is Microsoft's search engine. It has been around for many years and is one of the oldest search engines. Some Internet marketing gurus refer to MSN as "an old rusty search engine". Microsoft seems to continually have indentity crises regarding the name for its search engine and has also called it Live.com. Anyways, now they're calling it Bing.com and suggesting that it has loads of new features. If you've been blowing off Bing.com ("The Artist Formally Known as MSN.com, haha !) in your Internet marketing online endeavors you've been missing out on a huge change to get traffic from low-lying fruit. Although the majority of my traffic still comes from Google and Yahoo! I get a substantial portion from MSN (Dude, call me Bing!).

What steps to I need to take to get my HubPages and Blogs Index on Bing (MSN)?

The first thing you need to do when you launch a new site is to submit the URL to MSN. Now the MSN search for "Submit your site URL to MSN" is coming up as Submit Your Site to Bing. In the cases of HubPages I would think this submission is unnecessary as HubPages surely gets crawled by MSN's (BING'S!) spiders very often.

However, when it comes to submitting both your blog's and HugPages' RSS feeds to Bing (MSN) this is where you need to be very pro-active. Go to my.msn.com. For now that's still being called MSN. You will have to have a hotmail account to login. Once you're in my.msn you'll want to click on "add page". You can name the page anything you want. Tick the box for start page with blank page. Towards the upper-right part of the screen you'll see "add content". Click that. Towards the left of the screen you'll see "Add RSS". Click that. Now, click on your own HubPages .com profile. Click on "Subscribe to 'my HubPages' name' RSS Feed". Copy the URL that appears in your browser. For me it reads like this: http://hubpages.com/author/dawei888/latest/?rss. Now, paste that RSS feed into the Add RSS feed page of your my.msn.

There. You're done. By submitting your HubPages.com RSS feed to MSN (Bing's) my.msn starter page you're basically pushing Microsoft's search engine to crawl your HubPage or Blog. In doing so you've not only increased the chances for getting traffic to your HubPage or blog but you're also helped MSN (BING) in a way by adding more content to their search engine.

Online success means continuously seeking new forms of low-lying fruit

I remember during the McCain-Palin presidential campaign they kept repeating that they would take an "all-of-the-above" approach towards solving the United States' problem of overdependence on foreign oil. In Internet marketing and making money online we must take an "all-of-the-above" approach to methods of finding low-lying fruit methods for getting traffic to our HubPages and Blogs.
