Do your teeth look like this

Bleeding gums
Bleeding gums

By Howard Bauer Jr.

There are many ways to get whiter teeth. I will cover many of them with you today with facts so you can choose the best way for you.

Have you ever noticed the actors on TV, these folks typically have the whitest smiles. This is because they can afford to have veneers overlaid on their teeth. So it really is not their teeth you see but a thin cover over them about the thickness of a sheet of paper. Also they can afford the high cost. Most of us cant. I know I can’t.

Another way to whiten is to have your dentist use a laser. This is very effective and can be done in one trip. However it is also expensive. Depending on where you live I have seen prices vary from $400.00 to $2000.00. This is still a lot of money for most of us.

Some people have been selling herbal whitening remedies on the internet. I would highly advise you to stay away from them. They may be affordable but they don’t work and they can do damage to your teeth and gums.

So what do we regular folks do?

There are still a number of ways to whiten teeth on a budget. The first step is good oral hygiene. Healthy teeth and gums will make the process a lot more comfortable. If you can, try drinking less coffee and tea as these will stain your teeth. I don’t know where you stand but for me, I have to have my coffee.

Store remedies do work and are affordable. You need to know that some work better than others. I would recommend talking to your friends to see what they have tried and found to work or not to work. Next, I would suggest going online to get some of those free samples to try. Free is cheap and you can try before you buy.

I have one last thing you can try. This is the remedy that works best for me. I mix one spoon of baking soda to three spoons of hydrogen peroxide with a splash of mouthwash and mix to a paste. The baking soda has grit for cleaning and the peroxide kills germs and bleaches your teeth. The mouthwash is for killing germs and to help with the awful taste of the mixture. This is the cheapest thing I have been able to find that actually works.

You should be advised; if you have sensitive teeth you probably should not use this formula or not use as often because it can irritate the nerves in your teeth. Also if your gums are not healthy this formula can irritate already sensitive tissue. I would use this mixture only about two to three times each week until you learn your tolerance to this mixture. This mixture can also be adjusted for your tolerance. This is not a formula a child should use and this formula cannot be swallowed. Make sure you rinse completely after you brush with this mixture.
