When you're ready to give your home a facelift, if can be tempting to start making changes throughout the house all at the same time. Many people have definite ideas about what is wrong with their homes, and want to kick off their redecorating plans by taking care of all the big things they want to change first. While this approach is certainly understandable, it isn't the best way to go about an organized home redecorating project.

Instead of attacking all of the big projects throughout your home first, it's generally much better to pick a room to start with, and take care of everything that needs to be changed about that room before you move on to the next one. If you don't focus on one area until its overhaul is completely finished, you may find yourself living with chaos throughout every aspect of your home for a very long time.

Decide Where to Begin

When you're ready to commit to decorating your home, the first thing you need to do is decide which room to start first. Many people select the room that is currently the least aesthetically pleasing. This can be a good approach to getting started, assuming the room you choose is one that you use on a regular basis. However, if it's a guest room that you rarely use, you may want to choose a different room.

As with any large project, you need to experience benefit from your hard work as quickly as possible. If you spend most of your time in the family room or kitchen, and those rooms are on your to-do list for redecorating, it may be best to choose one of them. If you spend a lot of time in a room, it makes sense to overhaul that room first so that you can enjoy using it in its updated state. Being able to use a redecorated space every day can give you the boost you need to keep focused on the rest of your redecorating projects until you have worked your way through the entire house.

Make a Wish Book

Many people find it very beneficial to create a decorating notebook when trying to organize and implement a major home overhaul. Get a three ring binder, and create a section for each room that you want to update. Include details about each room, such as the dimensions, the floor plan, and other relevant considerations. You may even want to include photos of the room for reference when you are out shopping for room décor.

Use the binder to gather ideas about what you want to do with each area. Gather paint swatches, cut photos of furniture and accessories out of magazines, and jot down ideas about what you'd like to do with the space. Keep your wish book with you at all times, especially when you are out shopping for items to use during your decorating projects.

Choose Your Primary Suppliers

It can be very beneficial to select a few retailers to use for most of your home decorating needs. This allows you to get to know decorating professionals who will be able to help you find and choose furniture and accessories that meet your needs.

A good home décor salesperson will spend time talking with you about your needs and expectations when you first visit the store. You can use your decorating notebook to help communicate your sense of style and plans for your home. When you use the same sources for each of your home decorating projects, you won't have to start over explaining your goals and needs every time you move on to a new room.

By sticking with a few furniture stores, you'll have a better chance of making sure that everything you use in your home is designed to work well together. You'll save time and make progress toward creating a coordinated, polished look for your living space.

Bill, excellent ideas. You make it sound so easy! It's amazing how decluttering a room can have such a positive effect. If you get a chance check out my hub about making a decorative crosses for the wall
