It is easy to guess someone's age by using the Chinese Lunar Calendar.

By now most Americans are familiar with this astrological calendar. While in the West we use a monthly calendar, e.g. Cancer, Gemini, Capricorn, etc., the Chinese lunar calendar is based on a 12 year cycle.

It begins this year, 2008, with the year of the rat (see picture below), followed by the ox, the tiger, the rabbit, the dragon, the snake, the horse, the sheep, the monkey, the rooster, the dog, and the boar (pig).

Many people may be reluctant to reveal their age but they have no problem revealing their lunar sign.

If someone tells you they are born under the sign of the rat, and this is the year of the rat, then you know their age would be as follows: 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84, etc.

If they were born under the year of the boar which was last year, then you would add one year to 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, etc.

I am born under the sign of the ox (also known as the water buffalo and in Korea, the cow). Next year is the year of the ox. So that means that next year I will be 12, 24, 36, 48 (maybe), 60 (possibly), 72 (not yet). etc. but this year, of course I would be one year less.

With a 12 year division it is easy to guess whether someone is 12, 24, 36, 48, etc.
