Moving and Stress

Anyone can tell you that moving day is never simple. There will be so much going on during this day, and you need for everything to go smoothly in order to get things done in time. In order to consider your move complete, you need to accomplish many different things, including:

  • Packing
  • Loading the truck
  • Cleaning the Home
  • Transfering Subscriptions, Prescriptions, and Mail
  • Cancelling Memberships
  • Final Dr and Vet visits, as well as getting a copy of any records
  • Packing travel boxes and making travel arrangements.
  • Deciding how to transport vehicles
  • Turning in old Keys
  • Turning off and on Utilities

As you can see, there are plenty of things that need to be done, and on moving day, if there are still things left to do, you are sure to feel stressed out.

Moving day is generally the day where things come together and most of the move is complete. In order to limit the stress that you feel on this day, you need to prepare yourself as well as your home well in advance. Even last minute moving needs to be planned out and organized so that the stress that you feel from the move does not go through the roof.

While you might think it is impossible to limit moving day stress, I am here to tell you that it is indeed possible and you too can make your moving day a day that was fun, stress free, and easy.

Moving Day takes planning.
Moving Day takes planning.

Organization and Planning

Perhaps the number one thing that will reduce the stress that you feel on moving day is planning and organization. If you make sure to plan things out and organize the move correctly, you will not have to worry about when and how things will get done. This is especially important if you are moving with kids, pets, or a large home. The more things and people that are involved, the longer you can expect things to take.

The first step in any move is finding the right moving companies to handle the task of transporting your things for you. You need to be well aware of your needs before you go searching for the right company, as they will often try to sell you things that you might not need. You should also be aware of the choices that you have in choosing a moving company. There are many different companies out there that you can choose from, including cheap truck rental, portable storage containers, self pack moving companies, professional moving companies, long distance carriers, interstate movers, and various local moving services.

Because the transport of your things is probably the most expensive part of a move, you need to take your time and choose the best company for your needs. This means that you might need to call many different companies in order to get various moving quotes for your particular move. Be aware that all good moving companies should offer free estimates no matter what kind of move that you need services for. Even smaller moves should get free price quotes, although you might find them higher than you originally planed. Make sure to save time by only calling companies that offer the services that you are looking for. Do not bother calling a local company for a long distance moving quote, as they most likely do not offer services outside of the local area.

National moving companies, on the other hand, offer well known services throughout the country. They are often well known in a variety of different areas, counties, and cities. You can find major websites online, where you will find a bunch of information about the company as well as moving tips and tricks. Getting free moving quotes from these national giants can give you a basis on which to view estimates from other cheap moving companies that also offer the services that you need. Comparing the quotes will allow you to choose a service that will fit into the budget that you have set up for the move, but it is not the last step in planning and organization.

Packing is another time consuming part of moving, and you should not wait until the last minute to make sure that this task is accomplished. It is vital that you give yourself plenty of time to get things in order, allowing you to decrease the stress that you feel as moving day gets closer.

The method in which you pack will also depend on which moving services that you have chosen as well. You can always pack your home up on your own without the aid of anyone, but this is time consuming and difficult if you have many different things that need to be packed. Fragile items and delicate things make this process even more difficult. Many long distance moving companies offer long distance moving services that include packing, loading, unloading, and unpacking at your new home. You can always hire such services for your move, but you need to weigh in the cost of them before you sign a contract. For every bit of time that you save, you can expect to pay out a fee. Sometimes this fee is well worth it, but other times it is not.

If you have chosen to get a truck rental for your transport needs, then you can always hire local moving services that offer packing and loading. These services often offer the manpower to go with the truck that you just rented. Keep in mind that they will not drive the truck, and they often need to be booked well in advance. Sometimes this is the cheapest route to take, but you need to be able to drive a big moving truck rental. There are many different one way truck rental options out there if you are interested in saving some money on the move, but you should be aware that you will have to put more time and effort into moving using truck rentals for moving.

No matter how you choose to move, however, you need to make sure that you choose a method well in advance in order to give yourself time to pack. Make sure that you stay organized as you pack as well, by labeling boxes and keeping like items together. Doing this will really help you get organized quickly at your new home, instead of having to search high and low for your utensils. Remember, the faster you get settled in your new place, the easier the overall move will be.

Cars from Here to There

Another thing that you need to be concerned with when you are planning for your move is how you will get your vehicles from your old home to your new home. This is difficult for many families that have multiple vehicles because not too many people know about car shipping. Vehicle shipping is just what it sounds like it is. A large truck will either come to your home or a depot station, where your vehicle will be loaded and driven to a new home.

This process is simple, and can actually save you some cash when you are moving. The best part about it is, however, that you can often find the perfect auto transport company in the area where you already live. While some states have companies that are more well known than others, you should not have to go far to find a great car transport company to take care of this aspect of your move.

There are various different car hauling companies to choose from, and just like with your moving company, you need to look into the companies and get quotes for the services that you will need for your move. Make sure that you compare the service types as well as the prices, as closed transport will always cost more than open. Knowing the difference in the services that are offered by these companies will go a long way to helping you get through moving day without too much hassle.

Consider having the vehicles shipped before moving day as well, as you will have one less thing to worry about as well as having some extra room in which to maneuver the truck, movers, or boxes.
