How to Load High Capacity Airsoft Magazines

One of the notable challenges of opening a new airsoft gun are the horribly translated directions that ship with them. While the Chinese and Taiwanese airsoft manufacturers make some great products, they lack in the ability to create equally great instructions. One item that many first time users have trouble with is the Airsoft High Capacity Magazine - specifically the wind up style of airsoft magazine. Those helpless souls are easy to identify with comments like "it only shoots when I hold the gun upside down" or "putting the BBs into the hole one-by-one is very difficult." Fear not airsofter novice, many of us made this same mistake once, and it's easy to correct. Once you learn how to use an Airsoft High Capacity Magazine you'll find they are easy to use and an innovative way to feed Airsoft BBs into your AEG.
A little background on how they work. Under spring tension, BBs are fed from a storage well up a feed tube and into the Airsoft Gun. BBs move freely into the gun as long as there is a sufficient spring tension (spring is wound) and enough BBs to continue feeding up into the gun. It is important to note, depending on the airsoft magazine type, the last 7-20 BBs will not feed due to the High Capacity Airsoft magazine design. Basically there aren't enough BBs to maintain tension in the feeder tube.
To properly load a high capacity airsoft magazine, open the BB well door on top of the magazine. Using a small funnel, or your carefully placed hand, fill the BB well all the way to the top. You should be able to easily close the door when filled, do not overfill or force the door as it may break.
Locate the winding wheel on the bottom of the magazine, note that it will usually turn one direction only. Wind the ratchet wheel for approximately 30-45 seconds, until you hear a different click sound. Once the click sound changes, your magazine is fully wound. This process is a good way to build up your thumb muscles. If you are not very patient or have weak thumbs, SRC makes an electric airsoft Magazine winder (SRC Mr. Roll up) that is five times more efficient than using a thumb.
With your airsoft gun on Safe, insert the High Capacity magazine into the AEG Magazine well. You should hear the BBs charge into the Gun’s Feed point. You are now ready to set your Airsoft Gun's selector switch to fire and let'er rip!
Before storing your airsoft gun it is always best to release tension on the High Capacity airsoft magazine spring. Hold the Magazine upside down over a bag (Very important or you'll be picking up BBs for hours). Press the release button (located next to the feed hole) and hold until you hear the spring completely unwind and the BBs stop coming out. Open the BB well door and empty the remaining BBs into the Bag.

I found out what is wrong with my gun. But the magazine is a piece of crap and I am trying to find a new one. I use a JG HK 416 short barrel gun. Please respond fast.
I don't get what is wrong with my gun. It worked the first day I used it and then a little bit the second day, then in the middle of shooting it, it stops working. I dont have a cleaning rob for the gun and i am not good at taking it apart. But i dont think its a jam because whenever i wind the magazine, nothing happens.
3V@N,
depends on the spring gun. You should see if a friend or local store has the hight caps in stock and test one out in your spring gun.
This is gonna sound stupid, but can I use a High Cap M-14 mag for my spring M-14??? Help me out.
Do you have to wind it while u are having a war. I want to get a high capacity airsoft gun with a 400 bb magazine. Would I have to rewind it in the middle of an airsoft war?
As you know I dislike very much high caps, but the winding system on the JG mags is great. On the side of the mag toward the bottom is a allen type head. The Guns and mags come with a butterfly wrnch winder. Saves painful fingertips from winding mags. The finish is terrible though. I suggest stripping to bare metal prime and flat black them.
The high capacity magazine you sent me for my Well MP-4 is awesome, i will check out the winder you recomeded.
Always informative Major.
