There are many people looking to lose five pounds in a week or lose five pounds in 10 days. I’m not going to tell you how to do that. It’s possible, but it’s completely counteractive. To put it bluntly, the concept is absolutely ridiculous. If you lose 5 pounds that quickly, you’ll almost instantaneously gain 7-10 lbs back. Sorry – I don’t want to help you lose water weight and gain it back quickly!
This article (consisting of three parts) will give you plausible advice that will allow you to easily lose at least 5 pounds at a nice, steady and slow pace every month that is very healthy and very doable.
Please note, if you are pregnant or simply looking to lose weight, always consult with your physician first before starting any diet or exercise program.
This series will cover:
Part I: The benefits of slow weight loss
Part II: Healthy eating strategies to lose five pounds
Part III: Recommended exercises to lose five pounds
Whether you have 5, 10, 15, 20 or 25+ lbs to lose, follow these instructions for slow but steady weight loss. It’s not instantaneous, but the results will last longer and will be totally worth it in the long run.
Part I: The Benefits of Slow Weight Loss
We’ve all seen ‘miracle diets’ and magic smoothies and nasty concoctions (maple syrup, cayenne pepper and lemon juice, anyone?) None of these diets lose fat. None of them. All they simply do is dehydrate your body and eliminate excess water weight. The only results you’ll see are lower numbers on the scale (for a few days) and a tired looking you. Dehydration is terrible for your skin and is totally counter productive for weight loss. Not to mention, your body needs as much water as it can get to function properly. Dehydrated individuals commonly exhibit slower mental capabilities and lack quick processing. Ever been in the sun all day with limited fluids? You’ll feel exhausted physically and mentally. You need water to function.
This is why, anyone who wants to lose five pounds a week or in a day or in a month should reconsider what they’re really trying to do. You’re not going to fit into your clothes better, the numbers on the scale will just go down. Once you start drinking regular fluids and eating normally, that 5 lbs will jump back on super fast. Typically, yo-yo dieters like this see weight added back above and beyond the weight they lost!
Again, slow and steady weight loss wins the race.

Good advice. I have tried a lot of the fad diets in which you lose weight fast, but I always put it back on. Great hub. Thanks!
