How to Lower Your Blood Pressure at Work
54
Many people have found that work is an unnecessary burden on our health. It can cause us to eat out and grab an unhealthy lunch due to convenience or not allocate enough time to exercise. Work related stress also pumps up our somewhat inflated blood pressures. This isn’t healthy, as any high-school biology student can tell you – high blood pressure can kill you.
So how do you get past the stumbling block of work and live a healthy lifestyle once again? Well the key is in proper planning. There are 2 key elements to proper planning, and if you follow them they can change your life for the better.
#1: Plan Ahead
One of the things that it takes to eat well is planning. I remember a story someone told me that really hit home. They had gone to a seminar with a friend who was also interested in eating well. At the seminar area they noticed that he had brought a cooler with him; his first thought was “Why‘d he bring a cooler to a seminar? He‘s going to have to lug that portable ice-box all over the place!”
Half-way through the day his stomach answered the question. As it began rumbling, he realized that there was nothing around to eat except for what was available in the snack-bar and surrounding fast-food locations. The long and short of this story is that if you want to eat well all of the time, then you have to plan to be hungry.
Proper nutrition is key to managing blood pressure, so planning ahead is your first step.
You can plan ahead whether you are out at work, on the road, or just running errands, it is important to prepare for stress and hunger. Otherwise, it‘s vending machines, convenient stores, or airplane food.
#2: Take a Break.
It's that simple.
Did you know that it is has been proven that a little 5 - 10 minute break an hour can improve productivity, increase your energy and your motivation?
Just take a deep breath, go for a walk, go grab a glass of water or healthy snack, call a friend—just take a break to reduce stress and help lower your blood pressure. It will even help you be more productive in the long run.
Ending Thoughts...
If you keep those to ideas fixed firmly in your mind, it will be easier to avoid the food that causes high-blood pressure.
Instead of running around at work trying to fill the void in your belly, figure it out the night before and do something about it – otherwise your unhealthy diet at work will just contribute to the high blood pressure which will effect your overall quality of life.
Do you really want that?
