No More Second Rate Sides!

How many times have you fired up the grill to show all your friends and family what a Real Grillmaster could do with a slab of ribs and then served pre packaged slaw and baked beans from a can to go with it?

Why not give them chef quality sides to go with that delicious steak or those great lamb chops?  Today I'm going to show you how to make BBQ baked beans so good  that your friends will beg for seconds.  The recipe is fairly simple and the ingredients are available in your local market.

Come on and cook with me.  You'll love it!

My Signature Baked Beans

For this recipe you must start the beans at least an hour before service to allow them time to cook and to let them rest about 10 minutes before serving.

Here are the ingredients you will need.

  • 1 #10 can of pork & beans ( use vegetarian beans if you prefer no pork)
  • 1 cup sauteed diced onion
  • 2 cups dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup dark molasses
  • 1 T cayenne pepper sauce ( Texas Pete is really good)
  • 2 cups crispy bacon, crumbled up
  • 2 cups dark BBQ sauce ( I like Kraft bold and sweet)
  • 1 T ground ginger
  • Mary Anne can stir ( poor joke but I couldn't resist!)

Preparation

Now for the fun part let's first chop up our raw bacon into 1 inch pieces and cook until crispy.  Rempve the bacon from the pan, add 2 T of oil and saute the diced onion until golden and translucent.  Remove from the heat and set aside.

Open the beans into a large bowl and stir in the bacon and onions thorougly, add ginger, cayenne pepper sauce, BBQ sauce and molasses stirring to mix well.  Last to do is adding the brown sugar. Mix it in slowly so that it is spread into the beans evenly.

Pour into a sprayed (with Pam) casserole dish or for easy clean up use a deep aluminum foil pan placed on a cookie sheet.  Cover with foil and bake at 324F for 45 minutes.  Remove from oven, uncover and cook another 15-20 minutes to finish.

Take  the beans out of oven and allow to rest ten minutes, stir and serve.  Enjoy being called the best cook in the house as your friends devour the cook out food you treated them to!

Happy Independence Day!
