1-Choosing the right blender for you
First you need to get a blender, which fits your needs. You should consider the following questions:
- How much smoothie do you need to make at once?
- Would you only use your blender for making smoothies?
Would you need it for anything else? Do you want a smoothie blender?
- How important is power or a warrantee to you?
Ok, so if you have a family and are looking to make enough for the whole family for breakfast than you’re going to want to go with either a commercial strength or just a regular table top blender.
If you’re single or you’re the only one in the house that’s going to be eating your smoothie than getting a smaller blender like the magic bullet is also advantageous. First, it will blend quicker because it’s blending less and two you don’t have to throw any out or have you’re smoothie become a resident of you’re fridge for the next week or so.
If power and warrantees are important to you than you’ll want to go with a commercial grade blender like Vita-Mix or Blendtec. Also, if you’re planning on using your blender to grind wheat than you’re going to want to get a commercial strength blender. Other wise most run of the mill blenders will work for making smoothies.
2-Get some recipes
You can find great smoothie recipes in a variety of places. There are some excellent recipe books, but with the Internet you literally have a library of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of recipes that you can usually get for free or for a very low cost. I would recommend looking online for free recipes, especially if you’re just starting out.
Later on you may find a particular blog that you really like who might have a book, eBook or group you have to pay to get into. Now that you’ve seen some of there other stuff you know that you’ll get high quality recipes from them you might want to buy their club or pay their due to join their club. But first just use the free recipes.
3-Look at recipes and use them to go shopping
May sound like a “no-duh” tip. But there is nothing more annoying than getting excited to make a certain smoothie and then discovering you don’t have all the ingredients in the fridge. Many smoothie ingredients you probably will have in your fridge regardless like milk or bananas.
But other ingredients you may not buy very frequently. Like me for example. I don’t usually buy yogurt or kale. Some recipes not only require yogurt but a specific flavor. So if I want to try it out I have to buy yogurt and instead of running to the store to buy one item I just prefer to look over the recipes I’m going to use before I run to the store.
4-Just do it!
Ok if you thought the rest of the steps were easy here is the easiest step: just do it. Wake up in the morning and follow you’re smoothie recipe. Let me throw down one of my favorites as an example:
KIWI Strawberry SMOOTHIE
1 cup frozen strawberries
½ cup water
1 peeled kiwi
1 banana
1-½ cups of ice
Makes about 20 oz.
This step is as easy as putting all of the above ingredients in the blender, turning it on, waiting 30 to 40 seconds and then drinking. Clean up is a piece of cake, just rinse and put the container in the dishwasher and congrats you did it. That’s how to make smoothies.
