How to Make Tin Punched Christmas Ornaments
66
I have been saving the lids off of our frozen juice, wondering what I could do with them. I saw these tin punched ornaments in a catalog and thought I could make them.
Supplies you will need:
Clean juice lid (make sure it is smooth and not one with sharp edges)
A hammer
A nail
A small block of wood (I used a piece of 2 x 4)
ribbon
Some patterns that will fit inside of the juice lid
I used patterns from the internet. I just googled what I was interested in. stars, hearts, snowflakes, Christmas trees. You want to find a pattern with pretty straight lines, and not intricate since you will be working on a small area.
Step One
Center your pattern on the lid. I just taped the edges to hold it in place. Once you have your pattern on, place lid on the block of wood. This will protect the suface you are working on.
Step Two
Place the nail where you want to start. Then just tap with the hammer until it pierces the paper and the lid. Continue until you have gone around the entire pattern.
Note: the lid will stick to the wood when you are finished. You will need to pry it up with your fingers or a butter knife. Be careful as the back of the lid will be sharp from the piercings
Step Three
Create a hole at the top with the nail and string your ribbon through and tie. That's It! You have made a wonderful ornament. They are very pretty when little white lights shine thru.
