How to Make a Bookmark
65
If reading is a favorite pastime of yours or someone you know, then this is perfectly simple craft for you! Reading is always more pleasurable when it's marked by beauty, and by that I mean an aethestically pleasing bookmark. No more turning the pages down, tearing off a piece of paper, or using that old receipt! Here's a recipe for making a pleasing bookmark that you can use time and time again.
Materials:
- 1 piece of chipboard (2in x 6 ½ in)
- 1 sheet of cardstock or patterned paper
- ribbon
- 1 button (or other embellishment)
- paper cutter
- scissors
- strong adhesive
- glue gun
Instructions:
1. Cut your cardstock or patterned paper to 4 ½ in x 6 ½ in.
2. Adhere paper to chipboard by wrapping it around the the chipboard bookmark. Have the paper overlap on the front side of the bookmark, right to center.
3. Cut ribbon at 22 in.
4. Using the adhesive, adhere ribbon starting 1 ½ in from the top of the bookmark. Continue down the front and then up the back of the bookmark. Make sure the ribbon overlaps and is adhered at least ½ in below starting point. Let the rest of the ribbon hang about 1 - 1 ½ in below the bookmark. Trim as desired.
5. Using a hot glue gun (or a strong adhesive) glue the button (or other embellishment) on the ribbon at your overlapping point.
