This recipe/craft is easy for those that know the trick to drying these adorable creations. Your guests will appreciate your creativity and go on and on about how they just don't have the talent to do things like this. Little will they know how very simple these gourmet treats are to make.

Step 1: Begin by purchasing waxed paper, wintergreen lifesavers (the kind that come in the large bags in the candy aisle) powdered sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, and jelly beans (in the colors that match your theme). Please note: You will need twice the amount of mints as the number of pacifiers you wish to make. For instance, if you desire 20 pacifiers, purchase at least 40 mints.) Next, create the glue you will be using to stick these babies together. This is a basic recipe for Royal Icing which is the "glue" for this project.

Royal Icing

• 4 cups powdered sugar
• 3 tablespoons meringue powder (you can get this at a craft store that carries Wilton products)
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 5 - 6 tablespoons warm water

Step 2:

Mix the above ingredients and add the sixth tablespoon of water only if you feel like the mixture is too thick to do what is described next. Chances are it won't be. You'll need to mix these ingredients from 7-10 minutes depending on the quality of your mixer. The more expensive it was, the less longer you will have to mix. When you see stiff peaks form, you can stop mixing.

Step 3:

If you are a cake decorator, load the icing into your bag with a small writing tip attached. If not, poke a tiny pin-sized hole in the bottom corner of a baggy (a large quality one that won't burst at the seams when a bit of pressure is applied). Load the icing into the baggy using a spatula or large spoon. You will be piping the royal icing, or "glue," through the pin sized hole in the baggy.

Step 4:

Unwrap an even number of mints twice the amount of pacifiers you wish to make. If you want 20 pacifiers you'll need 40 mints. Unwrap half of the mints and lay them out on a sheet of waxed paper. Next unwrap the remainder of the mints and pipe a blob of thick royal icing on the side of a mint you just unwrapped and then place it perpendicular to a mint laying on the waxed paper. Let it sit, untouched, for about an hour until thoroughly hardened.

Step 5:

Flip the dried mints over and push their "handles" into a bowl of sugar. Pipe a blob of icing onto the flat mint and attach a jelly bean. Let the candy pacifiers dry for several hours in the bowl of sugar.

Step 6:

After your homemade favors are completely dry, pluck up each one from the bowl of sugar and wrap it in transparent cellophane bag complete with matching ribbon. Use the ribbon to tie a perfect little bow around the top. If you want to dress the package up a bit, add some sugar into each bag as well. Gather up all of your handmade wrapped favors and place them in a basket by the door. Invite each guest to take an edible pacifier on his or her way out of the baby shower. Decorating the basket with flowers, tulle, and/or ribbon adds an extra special touch as well.
