ID Card Making

Current identification cards are printed on plastic (PVC) material that is the same size as your VISA or Mastercard. The standard thickness is 30 ml. Badges can be printed on basic card stock or can be printed on specialized cards and smart cards for multifunctional uses.

Basic ID cards are made by obtaining id card software and an id card printer. The software and printer works on standard Windows based computers. The programs allow a computer operator to import logos, background images and other items to create a badge layout. Text boxes and picture boxes can be added and arranged so that the required elements are organized on the card in a readable, professional format.

The printer will need to be set up following the instructions provided from the manufacturer. The appropriate driver needs to be loaded and the correct printer ribbon installed for the type of card to be produced.

Once the layout is completed in the software, a test print can be transmited from the software to the printer for a proof print. If the proof card doesn't meet approvals, adjustments can be made in the software and additional test cards printed to arrive at the acceptable card format.

Once the layout is approved, card holder data can be typed into the appropriate fields displayed on the computer monitor. If a picture will be printed on the card, the picture will need to be imported into the picture field of the software prior to printing.

Bar codes and encoded magnetic stripe information can be added to the card as well. WIth the proper printer, the magnetic stripe can be encoded at the time of card printing.
