You motivate yourself to get in shape by making the decision that you are going to do this and nothing is going to stop you. To say that statement with determination and dedication you may need the guidance of reading material, a support group or another channel of communication that is aimed at weight loss.
There is an excellent book called The Secret that is purported by Oprah to be an excellent read if you need motivation to tackle as goal such as weight loss. You should purchase the book or you may choose to leisurely flip through the pages at the book store if you are having economic problems. The message of The Secret is that you can visualize what you want to achieve and if you look at what you want frequently then it will eventually materialize into reality.
Take for example Kristy Alley who was recently on the Oprah Show (It sounds like a lot of Oprah is watched but you have to admit hers is one of the most inspirational TV shows being broadcasted). Kristy Alley said that she drove past a large historic home everyday and looked at it because she wanted one day to own the home. At the time Kristy Alley was working as a housemaid cleaning large mansions. The day came when Kristy Alley with her television stardom was able to purchase the home that she had envisioned owning one day.
If you want to get in shape, you need to use some of the secrets contained in this book that many other people may have used in the past as pictorial motivators. If you were slim at one point, attach that picture to your bathroom mirror or to the refrigerator door. Look at that slim picture at every opportunity as the bathroom and the kitchen are the most used rooms in the house. When you have an inclination for ice cream, seeing the thin picture of you will motivate you to select an alternative such as yogurt. Yogurt is an excellent replacement and you would have been motivated by seeing that thin image of you whenever you walk in the kitchen.
You can use motivational tapes to get you to stay on your weight loss program and to get in shape. These tapes can be of exercise gurus such as Denise Austin or Richard Simmons (You may not like him in those short shorts but he has been effective in motivating unusually large people to get in shape). Play these tapes as you exercise along with the recording and keep the routine up on a daily basis.
If tapes is not your cup of tea, you may want to use a support group to help you to get in shape. Support groups such as weight watchers and others found on line can help motivate you to get in shape and to lose weight. Support groups may use such tactics such as instead of rewarding yourself with ice cream for a job well done to substitute the calories for the aforementioned tasty and low calorie yogurt. What you are doing is using reverse psychology which works fine when you find that your rewards are causing a reduction in weight instead of weight gain.
Use these motivators to get in shape. Purchase the book called The Secret and read it from the first page to the last and follow the worded instructions. Rent or purchase exercise tapes from the library or your local video store of exercise routines that can motivate you to lose weight and to get in shape. Weight Watchers and online support groups can keep you motivated to get in shape also. The first step must come from you and it is you who gt the dedication to be motivated and to stay motivated if you are to get in shape.

Leop, thank you for your comment.
Many times everything that we need to get motivated is there for us and it is just a matter of reading the book or whatever you need and using it to reach your goal.
Your greatest motivator is you and applying your knowledge to what you need at the time.
That book can be on the bookshelf but if not used will not do anything but accumulate dust.
It is easy to read a book, what is difficult is going through the motions with its applications for the desired results.
Your comment, Leop, is greatly appreciated.
