Overcoming Limiting Beliefs

"There is only cause of unhappiness: the false beliefs you have in your head, beliefs so widespread, so commonly held, that it never occurs to you to question them." Anthony de Mello
Limiting Beliefs Reside In The Subconscious
To overcome your limiting beliefs the first thing you must do is to identify them.
Your limiting beliefs follow you where ever you go. Much like the skunk smell that permeates the air, your limiting beliefs will stink up your life.
You can identify them by writing down all the things you believe to be true about yourself, focusing on those things that are negative. Basically, what you're going to do is to develop a list of those things you don't like about yourself.
Your list will look something like this:
- I don't like my nose
- My hair is too straight
- I talk too much
- I say things out of turn
- I can't seem to get ahead
Now you're going to take those negative things you wrote down and you're going to translate it into a negative belief:
- I'm not worthy
- I'm not loved
- The world is not a safe place
- I'm not safe in the world
- I'm not good enough
Write each of these beliefs on a separate piece of paper. Then take these pieces of paper out and burn them.
Create A New Set Of Beliefs
Write them out, put them on post-it notes and these will become affirmations that you will repeat to yourself until you "get it."
- I am perfect just the way I am
- I love myself
- I am a divine child of the universe
- My desires flow easily and effortlessly to me
