What is Self Hypnosis
Nearly everyone has experienced some sort of hypnosis in
their life. Have you ever been watching a movie that you enjoyed so much that
the movie ends and you are left wondering where did those two hours go? Or
maybe you have been sitting at school or work and started daydreaming, not even
noticing what is going on around you and pretty soon the hour has passed. Surprisingly
enough this trance like feeling is a form of hypnosis. Hypnosis simply uses
that same trance to help you relax and be open to suggestions. Hypnosis is not
a mind controlling altering idea that will leave you clueless, hypnosis is also
not a form of sleep. The easiest way to understand hypnosis is this simple
definition; hypnosis is simply a trance like relaxation that opens you up to
suggestion and suppresses or limits the power of criticism. Simply put hypnosis
gives you courage and helps you act on suggestions.
If you have ever been to a hypnosis comedy show you will notice that the people on stage are more willing to act out crazy situations. The people who have been hypnotized are open to the suggestions of the actual host and less inclined to worrying about what the people in the crowd will think of them. We will apply these same basic techniques to work on self hypnosis. If you are trying to improve your ability to talk to people then self hypnosis will help you relax and become more open to not worry about criticism or rejection. With that in mind lets jump right into some techniques and how to actually perform self hypnosis.
Getting Ready for Self Hypnosis
Performing self hypnosis is actually a lot simpler then you would ever expect. The first thing you need to do is to prepare a space where in you will not be disturbed and you can take advantage of the trance. I would suggest using a dimly lit room that is not fully dark (you do not want to fall asleep). If you have a coach you will want to lay on it. I would only use a bed as a last resort (as a bed may make you sleep easier). Once you have the appropriate atmosphere it is time to begin your relaxation.
The easiest way to begin relaxing is to focus on something that will not let you think about all the worries of your day. The breathing exercises presented in this section are an excellent way to begin relaxing and focusing on something other than your important day. If you cannot focus on your breathing alone I would suggest maybe getting a candle and really focusing on the flame. The key is just to stop thinking about all the things going on in your life.
Hypnosis Techniques
Now that you have found a relaxing place to lay or sit and are relaxed you are able to start the breathing techniques. To begin first start breathing in and out very slowly, try to slow your mind down as your actual breathing slows down. Once you are breathing more slowly take a deep breath in and hold for three seconds and then exhale very slowly. Continue breathing in and out like this for a few minutes. In your mind with every breathe you make think about how your mind and body are slowly relaxing and slowing down.
After you have been breathing for a few minutes begin to relax every part of your body. Start with your toes and visualize in your mind your toes getting heavy and relaxing. Continue working your way up your leg and into the back of your bum. Visualize each of these body parts relaxing and getting heavier with every breath you take. Slowly move up your back into your shoulder and arms all the way out to each finger on your hand. As you breathe all parts of your body get heavier and more relaxed. Next move into the back of your neck and into your face, ensure that even the muscles around your eye get very heavy and relax more than anything you could ever imagine. As your face gets heavier and relaxed the feeling will then move onto the top of your head and encompass your whole body. Continue your breathing relaxing your whole body with every breath you take. Your body then will begin to feel heavy and more relaxed than anything you could ever imagine.
Once you are relaxed you are able to move onto the next part of the self hypnosis. In your mind I want you to visualize a large staircase with 10 stairs leading down to a beach or your favorite place on the earth. You are going to slowly take each step down until you reach the bottom of the staircase and your most relaxing place you could ever visit. As you breathe in and out a few times you will take each stair very slowly. For each stair you take you will relax 10x what you were. Continue this process until you reach the bottom of the staircase and are so relaxed that you almost feel like you are floating on air. You are now ready to reach your special relaxed place.
Once you reach your special relaxed place you are able to begin implementing some hypnosis cues that will help you improve yourself. These cues will help you improve what it is you are trying to get better at. An example of cue building is if you are trying to become more social and able to speak to people you will need to build a cue that is relevant to that situation. What I would suggest for this specific cue is when you reach the beach or your special place you create a situation in your mind where in you present a great speech. In your relaxed place everyone loves you and reacts positively. You need to link your safe hypnosis beach with the scary presentation setting. In the future this will help you overcome any scary thoughts you may have. Once you are done relaxing in your special place you are able to come back from the relaxation. You are going to simply go back up the stair case and awake. However, as you go up each stair you will continue breathing deep and awakening a little more with each stair. Once you reach the top you will be completely awake and alert.
In a lot of cases hypnosis can not heal everything. Canker sores is one problem that hypnosis can not get rid off. However, canker complete is the most advanced canker sore treatment on the market today. Be sure to check them out.
