Broccoli Cauliflower & Carrots in Cheese Sauce

the gardener's kitchen

Broccoli and cheese two of my favourite foods and happily they go well together. Broccoli besides being a very healthy food is my second favourite vegetable right after brussel sprouts.

Food is one of the things I do have favourites of, although what I will eat covers a wide range and is often dependant upon how hungry I am and how energetic I feel.

Often I enjoy brussel spouts with my homemade tomato sauce poured over them and that is it. I do the same for broccoli.

Now when it comes to cheese and I no fan of the cheese foods such as cheese spreads or cheese slices with the exception of Velveeta which I grew up on. We’d make sandwiches with Velveeta and tomatoes or Velveeta and bologna.

Now if you want to get your children to eat broccoli you may want to take a look at a simple recipe with broccoli and Cheese Whiz. This is easy to make does not take long and at least gets some broccoli goodness into the children. You could use broccoli that you have steamed first rather than the frozen broccoli in this recipe.

Usually I steam my broccoli if I am going to cook it but it does stir fry well, if thinly sliced. I also enjoy it raw, sometimes topping the steaming broccoli with a bit of grated extra old cheddar cheese which is one of my favourites.

I also like to use either parmesan or mozzarella cheese on the broccoli and tomato sauce dish.

Another cheese I enjoy is blue cheese and we get a particularly good blue at the local store who brings it in from Quebec just over the bridge. Blue cheese and broccoli are a great combination and there are a number of ways to prepare them.

I usually, crumble the blue cheese and sprinkle it on the steamed broccoli after I have served the broccoli. It melts fairly quickly; well it gets soft and sticks, mostly to the broccoli.

When it comes to cheese and broccoli if you like them separately, let your creativity emerge as you experiment with the many possibilities they have to offer when combined.

Speaking of raw, if you want to increase your raw food intake, broccoli and cauliflower served on a platter with a selection of cheeses is a good way to do so. You could even make a cheese dip.

Hi Bob, brocolli is one of our favorites too. We steam ours unless we're eating it raw with a dip, or in a salad. It is, indeed, a very versatile vegetable.

I bookmarked this one too.  Thinking pretty soon I'll have a cookbook of bookmarks from the recipes of Bob Ewing, every one I've tried has been great. Never thought of bleu cheese until I read this.

Broccoli and cheese is a favorite in our house. Roasted with a little bit of olive oil, and sprinkled with fresh grated parmesan.

I'm a bit disappointed - broccoli is only your second favorite vegetable? It's my favorite green vegetable, potatoes are my most favorite vegetable. Thanks for the hub.
