During the winter months outdoor dogs often cope with freezing rain, snow, and bone chilling winds. As pet owners you have an obligation to do everything possible to protect your pooch from the brutal temperatures of Mother Nature during the coldest days of the year.

Start by making sure your outdoor dog has access to a doghouse that's well insulated to protect him from the elements. The doghouse should be large enough for your pooch to stand and turn comfortably -- but small enough to allow his body heat to circulate, and keep him warm.

Even when it's cold outside, your furry friend still needs plenty of clean, fresh water to keep him hydrated. It's important to check your pet's bowl frequently to make sure his water isn't frozen.
