Given the current economic climate, it is no surprise that there are millions of people who are struggling to pay off their credit card debts.  These people have fallen into financial hardships by either losing their job or overextending themselves financially.  If you have been wondering how to reduce out of credit card debt, then you need credit card debt relief.

The first thing you should do is get credit counselling.   This program will allow you to consolidate all of your existing debt under one monthly payment.  This means that you will lose all of the high interest monthly credit payments and only have to pay a single low interest payment.  The benefits of credit counselling are it allows you to tackle your debt without actually defaulting on the loans themselves.  One of the major downsides to credit counselling you don’t actually decrease the loan amount.  This means that the amount owed isn’t reduced, the interest is only lowered.

You can look online for companies that offer free consultation to help reduce credit card debt.  These companies will usually advice you on the different options that you can take and charge you a fee if you require assistance.

Other options for relieving your credit card debt are debt settlements.  A debt settlement is the process of actually reducing your outstanding debt by sometimes as much as 30% of the original debt.

This requires you to default on your debt with creditors.  After defaulting you can then try and settle an agreement with the lenders on what you can afford to pay.  By negotiating with creditors, they are likely to help you to avoid dealing with debt collectors.

The downside to debt settlement is that your credit rating takes a pretty big shock. This is not avoidable and if you are in this situation you shouldn’t be worried about what your credit rating is.  The last thing you should think of is how to get more debt when you are trying to get out of debt.  Another downside to these programs is that if you were to miss a monthly payment, the creditors could come after you, revoking any agreement and demand the full amount.  So make sure that you don’t miss payments when you are put on this program.

Before you decide what path to take in order to reduce your credit card debt, you should look online and see the different options available.  This way you can find how to reduce credit card debt.  Looking around will allow you to choose the best option available.
