How to Save Billions on Health Care with out Raising Taxes - A Simple Solution
66The American Dream Does Not Apply Here
Preventitive Medicine in a Climate of Poverty
That’s a compelling headline that invokes curiosity in most people... "How to Save Billions on Health Care with out Raising Taxes - A Simple Solution" Why? It’s compelling because we all want solutions that will lead to affordable quality health care for all. What I am about to talk about goes way beyond the tax and spend agenda of today’s Politicians. It goes right to the heart of the matter. The root cause of rising Health Care cost. The system is overburdened, over used, and inefficient for a simple reason.
Our current Health Care system is based on treating disease after it occurs instead of preventing disease. And when I say "System" I mean American Fiscal Policy not just Health Care Policy. Let me give you a simple analogy. Lets say you are a car, and you don’t change your oil and never get a tune up; what happens? You break down and the cost of repairs are disproportionate to the cost of proper maintenance. If you had changed your oil and done preventative maintenance the cost would be much lower. Makes sense right? Sure does! So why does the Government and the Health Care Industry keep practicing “after the fact” medicine and not preventative medicine?
The answer is really quite simple. Money... or more appropriately an equitable system of the distribution of money. There is a lot more money to be made for the wealthy elite in treating symptoms than preventing disease. And how do I know this? Because this is the policy of our Federal Government. Let me explain a bit more… and what you are about to read you should find quite appalling.
1 in 5 Children Under 5 Live in Poverty!
Now I’m not talking about Children in some 3rd World Country I am talking about Children right here in the United States of America. The numbers are frightening. This is a crisis that is actually far greater than our current Economic Worries, because there can be no sustainable recovery unless the solution to this crisis is enacted, and fast. The average poverty percentage for Children Under 5 in the United States is 21%.
And this is contributing heavily to Childhood Obesity, Diabetes, and other illnesses that will carry through the life of the Child. This is PROVEN because poor people do not have the income to eat Healthy Foods, and Corporate America feeds this problem by creating low cost "fast food". Just look at any poor community and you do not see Grocery Stores full of fresh produce... you see fast food chains and "Dollar Menus". The Federal Government... there are just too many ways that Federal Policy is contributing to poverty to list.
Sample Poverty Numbers for Children under 5 by State:
- Alabama - 27%
- Arkansas - 29%
- Louisiana - 30%
- Mississippi - 33%
- New Mexico - 29%
- West Virginia - 31%
Lowest Rates of Child Poverty
- Connecticut - 15%
- Maryland - 12
- New Hampshire - 11%
- Utah - 12%
- Wyoming - 15%
Just like National Defense spending Health Care spending is non productive. We don’t spend on Health Care to produce a product or service; we spend on Health Care because we have to spend on Health Care to “save” lives! If people were “Healthy” so much or our Country's resources could be allocated to better more productive uses.
If National Defense Spending Doesn’t Ruin the Economy Health Care Spending Will
- As the largest industry in 2006, health care provided 14 million jobs—13.6 million jobs for wage and salary workers and about 438,000 jobs for the self-employed.
- 7 of the 20 fastest growing occupations are health care related.
- Health care will generate 3 million new wage and salary jobs between 2006 and 2016, more than any other industry.
- Most workers have jobs that require less than 4 years of college education, but health diagnosing and treating practitioners are among the most educated workers.
Why do we need so many Health Care workers? Because people are not practicing Preventative Health! And the major contributor to poor health is lack of education and poverty!
Are these the types of jobs we want to create? We are always going to need a Health Care system, but we
wouldn’t need to spend near as much if people were “Healthy”. But how can you expect people to lead
“Healthy” lives when they are living below the Poverty Level! What kind of life will our Children have if they are slaves to medication and hooked up to machines? How will they be able to contribute to society?
Consider the Cost of Childhood Poverty on the Health Care System
When children are malnourished they cannot perform well in school! How can we expect today's generation of impoverished children to become tomorrow's leaders if they can't get the education they need to gain the skills they need to lead?
Poverty is creating a class of people that will not have the economic means to support themselves and will create a substantial burden on the health care system for which they cannot pay. Who is going to take care of these impoverished children when they are 20, 30, 40?
Poverty is a cancer on an economic system. Unless we can eliminate poverty we cannot have a sustainable economy. When poverty is high, education and learning is low, resulting in a class of people who have little self-esteem and are unable to contribute economically. These same people create a disproportionate use of human services and or disproportionate participation in criminal activity which in and of itself creates an additional burden on economic productivity.
What is the Solution to Poverty?
The solution to poverty is a healthy economy where there is opportunity for all classes of people to educate themselves and participate. Our current Financial System is so "Top Heavy" this opportunity does not exist. The middle class jobs of yesterday are gone and will not be returning under the present system.
The way to have a healthy economy is to eliminate the Federal Reserve and get back on a monetary standard based on Gold. Until the Central Bank and the unsustainable perpetual debt model is eliminated business as usual will continue. Business as usual enslaves people to a monetary system that is inequitable and removes opportunity from the people resulting in an endless cycle of poverty and rising Health Care Costs.
It’s time to stop thinking of our System of Government as Republican and Democrat. It’s time to stop blaming one side or the other. Both sides are to blame because both sides continue to support the monetary policy of the Federal Reserve System.
You can not spend your way out of debt by creating more debt. Debt has destroyed our very way of life. There are those in Office that would blame our Economic Crisis on Fear… saying consumers are not willing to spend. Well the reality is this is a total LIE! In my city of Las Vegas there are currently 135,000 unemployed people. People that can not spend, not out of fear, but for a more logical and practical reason – they have no jobs so they have not money. No money means no spending and the wheels of commerce grind to a halt. It’s not fear, it’s reality.
When our country was on a gold standard we had problems, but problems were “fixable”. Problems were available because people had confidence that there currency had value. Currency no longer has value as it is created from nothing and backed by nothing.
There is no reason why we need to be slaves to mortgages and car loans. The cost of living rises each year not because of increased productivity, the cost of living rises because of inflation caused by Federal Reserve policy which creates a continual cycle of debt that can not be repaid.
Enough said. If you want to get out of this crisis, if you want affordable Health Care, if you want to live in a country where you own you own home not some Banker, if you want to live in a country where crime is low, where people have opportunity and are treated fairly then before you vote in any election – find out if the person you are voting for supports abolishing the Federal Reserve. The time to make real change is now!
If you read this entire article and don't get the "Simple" part then you are probably not alone. But it really is simple. When you create a Society of Opportunity and Prevention you dramatically lower the cost of Health Care.

Good hub. Unfortunately, it is cheaper to eat unhealthy food. If the economy would suddenly improve dramatically I think there would still be a lot of people not eating healthy and not exercising. People have to be willing to change so I think it would take a generation. You would have to put physical education back in the schools, teach heath, and provide healthy lunches in the cafeterias. The key certainly is education. People have to understand and care enough about themselves to make the good choices.
Interesting hub..but it is very difficult to change a nation's habits. Frankly, I think it is an individual problem and an individual solution. Government shouldn't stick their noses into yet another part of our lives.
The Federal Government subsidizes crops that benefit the profits of Corporations. Corn is the perfect example. Why? Because corn is used to feed the Cattle and provide "fillers" that are used in the Fast Food industry. Low cost feed, means low cost beef which means more profit to Corporations. McDonald's doesn't care about health they care about profit. McDonald's "Chicken" McNuggets are not even chicken.
"Of the thirty-eight ingredients it takes to make a McNugget, I counted thirteen that can be derived from corn: the corn-fed chicken itself; modified cornstarch (to bind the pulverized chicken meat); mono-, tri-, and diglycerides (emulsifiers, which keep the fats and water from separating); dextrose; lecithin (another emulsifier); chicken broth (to restore some of the flavor that processing leeches out); yellow corn flour and more modified cornstarch (for the batter); cornstarch (a filler); vegetable shortening; partially hydrogenated corn oil; and citric acid as a preservative."
"The most alarming ingredient in a Chicken McNugget is tertiary butylhydroquinone, or TBHQ, an antioxidant derived from petroleum that is either sprayed directly on the nugget or the inside of the box it comes in to "help preserve freshness." According to A Consumer's Dictionary of Food Additives, TBHQ is a form of butane (i.e. lighter fluid) the FDA allows processors to use sparingly in our food: It can comprise no more than 0.02 percent of the oil in a nugget"
38 Ingredients to make a Chicken McNugget, most of which are not even Chicken?
McNuggets sprayed with Butane? Delicious!
Cattle stomachs are not designed to digest corn, it's not a natural food. They are designed to digest GRASS. What happens is you get sick unhealthy cattle, then you grind those up and sell them in dollar menu's to people too poor to buy healthy fruits and vegetables. It's always about profit. The food companies do not care about health, they care about profit.
People in poverty situations do not understand what "Healthy" is because they are not educated. And they are not educated because they are poor. It's an endless cycle that could easily be broken by allocating resources back to the people and way from Corporate Interests and Bankers.
Most people are to uneducated or not intelligent enough to understand what is going on. This is the exact reason why the cycle is allowed to continue.
How exactly is a Top Heavy Debt Ridden financial system an "Individual Choice"? Poverty is NOT an individual choice.
CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 5 DO NOT CHOOSE TO LIVE IN POVERTY!!!
