Students should Supplement the Family's Help in Saving For College

Saving for college can be an independent endeavor if the student is from a financially challenged family. For the student who is in a family that has the provisions to send them to college, should still look to school resources on financial aid that can supplement the family’s help in saving for college.

You will not be able to cut grass to get through college unless you start way early and save up every cent and having your money matched with a charitable contribution from parents. However, around the ninth grade when you should have idea of what you are interested in doing for a living, it is a good idea to visit your school guidance counselor. The job of the guidance counselor is to provide the needed assistance to help guide students to college. Th guidance counselor has all of the resources needed to tell the parents and the students of the aid that is available in regards to financial aid for college.

Just like anything worth obtaining, you must do your research to save for college. Be scrupulous when it comes to receiving information about testing for the PSAT’s and the SAT’s. Some of these companies are commercially motivated and you are looking for financial aid and not to help a company become a part of the Fortune 500 group. Use online resources to check out any unsolicited offers of financial aid for prudence and validity. Notify your guidance counselor and ask their opinion of the financial assistance offer. The guidance counselor’s job is to help the student so you are not impeding upon their day if you make an appointment to discuss financial aid.

You can save for college by working and saving on a part time job while in school. If you find that your school work is not as good as it was before you started working, then find another avenue to make money. Maybe you can work on the weekends and that way you can find the time to do your school work and to make money to save for college.

Do not go it alone in your goal to save money for college. There are myriad of resources online and offline as well as on your school and college campus that can help you save for college.

Actually, if a student would put in a special bank account that he/she cannot take out before the age they will be in college..put one day's salary a week. Would have more than enough and probably more than what their family put aside.

Now if everyone started at 20 to do that..by 55 they are a millionnaire..

DancingRedFeather, thank you for your comment. Saving a day's pay per week is an excellent way to save for college.
