How to Select Golf Clubs Right for You
66
There are better clubs out there than there were years ago so now it is time for you to take full advantage of this as this will improve accuracy and power along with many more aspects of golf swing dynamics. The downside is if you have bad habits in your swing these clubs will not fix them. The new clubs of today can only improve the good aspects of you golf swing.
In order to enhance the good aspects of your golf game you will need a proper golf club set to suit you, you do not need to go out and spend a lot of money for a set of clubs. If you stand over 6 feet or under 5 feet tall a standard sized club will be appropriate for most men or women. Men’s golf clubs are generally 1” taller per club.
Club shafts are generally made of graphite or steel. Graphite shafts are preferred by many golfers for their ability to generate longer drives than the steel shafts. Steel shafts are more durable than graphite but require a higher clubhead speed to get longer distances on drives. Steel shafts also have better control in the swing because of their weight and are also cheaper to buy than graphite clubs.
Designs for drivers have reached the USGA limits for size and length. Larger clubhead means higher velocity (speed) in the downswing and offers a larger sweetspot for more forgiveness.
Irons are well known to have lots of styles and options available. These are divided into two main categories: cast irons and forged irons. The cast irons are more suited for beginners because they create a larger sweetspot and giver better accuracy. The forged irons are for a more skilled golfer or professional golfer. They feature a flat, well weighted back which results in a high centre of gravity and results in a smaller sweet spot and better control for the pro golfer.
Also try to find an experienced golfer or actual club fitting pro, avoid doing it yourself. There is no golf club designed to fit everyone, every golfer’s body need a specific club to suit you.
As with everything in life, it would a wise idea to research on the internet, libraries or in golf shops the information required to become a great golfer. Don’t guess everything, because you just don’t need to in today’s world. Remember “knowledge is power” and the more knowledge you have combined with practice, will make you into a much better golfer than others. Use this knowledge to your benefit and enjoy each of the lovely times on the course!
