Growing up on a small farm in Kansas there wasn't much to do. In fact, once a year a local community would hold a spitting contest which gave prizes to the longest spitter.

Hocking loogies has been a long-time tradition within the United States. In 1969, Mickie Mantle and Roger Marris battled it out for the most loogies spit in a season. Even Rose and Jack held a spitting contest on Titanic. The contest was so popular, that James Cameron felt he couldn't leave it out of the film.

Sadly, hocking a banger and shooting it across the parking lot isn't looked as highly upon as it once was. But really, who cares? If you have a large slimeball creeping its way up your throat you have to get it out somehow. So why not show off your hocking skills and shoot it as far as possible?

Best times to hock a loogy

  • while you have the flu/a nasty cold
  • during your allergy season
  • after play in dust
  • while walking through LA

How to shoot the hocker

  1. Arch your back and tilt your head back. [see photo]
  2. Hold mouth in an "O" shape. [see photo]
  3. Curl your tongue backwards and place the tip on the bottom of your mouth.
  4. Quickly move your head and body forward while uncurling your tongue and blowing hard.

What I've found works best is the ones that aren't too slimy but not too runny either. Typically, the phlegm at the beginning and end of the flu cycle work best for distance.
