The users of Windows XP, sometimes face some dully problem. One of the problem is that they are unable to open any drive of their computer hard disk by double clicking.  Moreover, if they try by right clicking on the drive and then click on Explore, they again failed. People fail to open any drive. Actually this problem is caused by a virus. This page contains information related to this type of problem and it's solution.

This type of problem (problem like unable to open any drive of your hard disk) caused by one type of virus. This virus creates or generated a file named as autorun.inf. The file is generated in the root directory of each and every drive. This file, autorun.inf is totally read only and always a hidden system file. After the creation of above file, users are unable to open any drive by double clicking or by exploring. Sometime, it may also disable the folder options. The autorun.inf files do the same for every drive. If your PC is infected by this virus, then if you insert any USB storage device, the virus creates autorun.inf file here  also. Finally, your pen drive also unable to access.

To solve the problem of this type, you have to do the following steps:

• Click on Start menu.
• Then select Run. After clicking "Run" option, a text box will be appeared.
• Write cmd in the text box and hit Enter key of your keyboard.

Type the command cd\ in the command prompt to access the root of your drive. By typing the command "cd\", you will access the default operating system installed drive.

• Type the command attrib -r -h -s autorun.inf and hit Enter key of your keyboard.
• Now, type the command del autorun.inf to delete the "autorun.inf" file and hit Enter key.

Your hard disk may have several drive. For example, C, D, E etc. You just delete the "autorun.inf" file form the default installed operating system drive. But the "autorun.inf" file is also located to other drive also. So, you need to delete the "autorun.inf" file from other drives also.

To delete "autorun.inf" file from D drive, type D: and hit Enter key of your keyboard. Now follow the step 3 again.

In this way, follow the above process to rest of the drives.

After deleting "autorun.inf" files from all of the drives, Restart your computer.

By following the above steps, you can easily solve the problem. After doing the above steps, now double click on any drive of your computer. I think, you are now able to access all of the drives of your computer. Now, try to explore of your drive by right-clicking on any drive and then clicking on Explore option. I think, you also do it easily.
