And MAN, have I been there!!! We have all tried to start a diet so many times only to find that we have failed, and after awhile that gets SERIOUSLY DISCOURAGING. 1) Motivation!
Losing weight is NOT easy! Whether you have 10 lbs to lose or 100 lbs or more... Its a struggle. Having a source of motivation is absolutely essential for success. The best sources of motivation are things that mean something to us... losing weight for someone else rarely works. It can sometimes be a struggle for people to lose weight for themselves because they see this decision as selfish, and therefore wrong. This is completely UNTRUE. Becoming the healthiest and best version of yourself is NOT AT ALL SELFISH. It actually benefits everyone in the long run! -- Example: “I am getting healthy to be a better parent.”
2) Support
Figuring out how to start a diet is difficult. Understandably, after trying time and time again to lose weight and failing, people tend to take on this task of losing weight alone. Sadly, this makes the process of getting healthy much more difficult. Its okay if you are uncomfortable telling a lot of people in your world about your diet when you are starting, but it is very important to have one person (maybe a spouse or best friend) who can support at the beginning of the process. Once you are making steady progress, others will get behind you and support you too. People LOVE to be involved with a Success!
3) Simplicity
Simplicity is important. If you decide to start a diet that requires tons of reading, complete routine changes, strict rules, and complicated tracking systems, it only makes it that much harder to succeed. Find a SIMPLE program for getting healthy. I will recommend a great program at the bottom.
4) “One Day At A Time” Mentality
Getting healthy can be a monumental Task! When you have 50 lbs to lose, an entire week of work for only 1 maybe 2 lbs can be discouraging if you are always thinking about 50 lbs. Focus on one day at a time. Do what you need to be healthy TODAY, and then after enough good “TODAYS”, you'll be a new healthy YOU!
5) A GREAT System
Tip #3 recommended a simple system, and that is certainly true. On top of that, the diet/system you choose has to be effective. There are 100s or systems out there to sort through.
