If you have a good digital camera and are wondering how to start a photography business you should consider starting in a small way on a part time basis right at home. A little research on how to start a photography business will reveal some photographers doing well with stock photography. This is the business of selling your work through the online stock photo sites. The individual payments may not be much but if you can spot a demand for a certain style of photo you can get lots of small payments which of course all add up! There are many reputable agencies online who have varying practices so best to treat them individually if stock photography is your thing.

These days you'll need to be handy with photoshop or similar graphics software. The days of darkrooms may be all but gone but the darkroom has been replaced by the computer. A little practice will open up many opportunities for creative photography such as that used in fashion, advertising and as an artform in itself.

Marketing the Business

Like in any business you will need to market yourself because the work is unlikely to come looking for you! You will need to work out how to get the word out that there is a hotshot for hire. Keep a portfolio of your best shots to show prospective clients and try to get a good website together, one that shows your best work too of course.
