Background of Hyperhidrosis and Social Impact

Sweating is normal part of human metabolism to release heat and cool down the body during hot weather. However, profuse sweating that occurs at times other than in hot conditions might be a sign of hyperhidrosis. In this case, excessive sweat occurs, especially in certain parts of the body.

This condition may affect face, neck, backs, underarms, groins and beneath the breasts. Excessive sweating, for most people both men and women, begins around puberty but the situation may improve in the mid-twenties or early thirties. It is not impossible though, and there are a lot of cases where this continues for the rest of the life.

This can be an embarrassing problem to have because socially people would think excessive sweat as something related to personal hygiene. Although patient usually can improve their condition by taking shower regularly, the sweat may start soon after it.

In most cases, it is not only about the puddles on the shirt but also the stinky odor that may follow because of the bacterias growing in the perspiration-prone areas.

Treatments for Mild Hyperhidrosis

There are many possible treatments for hyperhidrosis. For mild cases of hyperhidrosis:

  1. Take a bathe / shower regularly. Change clothes after it and apply talcum to sweaty areas.
  2. Try different types of antiperspirant. Some types of antiperspirant work very effective for some people while others need something else. You may want to try one for two weeks before switching to another product.
  3. Deodorants. Antiperspirant products may be combined with deodorants, but you may also try deodorant-only product.
  4. Try baking soda. This can be effective to overcome excessive sweating.

Sometimes it is just a matter of preparing your day. You may want to bring a pair of additional socks so you can change it if your feet gets sweaty. The choice of the materials for the clothes is also important. Natural materials like cotton keep the boy ventilated. It allows good circulation of air.

By all means, avoid synthetic clothing material that may cause sweating like polyester. For body odor, you want to trim hairs in the underarm areas because excessive hairs may keep the sweat longer. Bacterias may develop in those areas, which in turn cause body odor.

Hyperhidrosis Treatment for Moderate and Consistent Cases

For moderate and consistent hyperhidrosis, you may want to try different options:

  1. Oral medication. If the cause of the excessive sweating is stress, antianxiety and antidepressants can help.
  2. Iontophoresis. In this type of treatment, low current of electricity is introduced to the perspiration-prone area, like hands, feet, and armpits while the patient is in the water.
  3. Botox injections. Botulinum toxin is a strong poison but a small dosage can help block the nerves that trigger the sweat glands.
  4. Surgery. This involves the removal of the sweat glands or interrupt nerve signal to the sweat glands.

There are also specific treatments for excessive underam sweating.

the home remedies are good though they have varyhing effects. i have been trying them for some time with considerable degree of success.

I am not sure if there is a surgery available for that. And how much the botox injection does would cost for this purpose ??
