How to Stop Xbox 360 Gaming Lag
80Causes of Xbox Live Gaming Lag
We've all had it happen - you're on Xbox Live in the best online match of your life, next thing you know your Xbox 360 console warns you it's having connection issues, and suddenly you're character is dead. Why does this happen? For all kinds of reasons - your connection from your ISP may be too slow; you might have a faulty connection to the Xbox Live servers; the most common cause of gaming lag is using the Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter in B/G mode.
Wireless is everywhere, why would it cause gaming lag? Wireless signals are great for serving up Web pages, reading email, and downloading files. All of those things can handle the network drops and fluctuations of a wireless connection. You likely won't even notice your network speed changing as you surf. Playing games online is completely different - milliseconds matter. If your connection slows even for a second while you are playing a game, you go from winning to losing in a blink of an eye, because everything that makes wireless great for day-to-day stuff makes it unreliable for gaming.
How to Solve Gaming Lag on Your Xbox 360
You already spent almost $100 on the Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter and now I'm going to tell you why you don't want it. Not looking good for you, is it? Sell your wireless adapter on eBay and replace it with either a wired Ethernet connection or a wired equivalent Ethernet over Powerline adapter set. The main reason we all like wireless is that the Xbox 360 console doesn't need to be anywhere near the broadband internet connection in the house. The problem with wireless is, this often leads to all kinds of interference between the connection to your ISP and your Xbox 360 console. If you can run Ethernet through the walls of your house - do it. You'll be much happier with the connection speed.
Since running cable through walls isn't an option for most of us, the next best solution is Ethernet over Powerline. It requires you to connect an adapter to a power outlet near your Xbox 360 and a second adapter to a power outlet near your internet connection. You then connect a short cable at each end and you have a fast wired connection for online gaming. No more worrying about lag as long as your ISP is providing a reliable connection to your house. Ethernet over Powerline is the ultimate Xbox 360 wireless network adapter alternative.
