How to String an Electric Guitar

Introduction

When your electric guitar has strings installed properly it will always stay in tune for longer, it will have much better sustain and take less stretching to break-in.

I'm going to give you all the resources you need to learn how to string an electric guitar properly, the first time.

Whether you want to improve the sounds and quality of your guitar playing, change strings on the go, show off to your friends or just want to stop asking for help all the time this tutorial is for you.

Just below is a pretty good video showing you how to string an electric guitar. You don't need the piece of equipment they use to re-string your electric guitar, but it is mighty helpful.

Take a look at it now....

How do others String an Electric Guitar?

I was shown a method of how to string an electric guitar from my guitar tutor about 3 years ago. Then I went over to a friends place and he showed me a completely different method.

So who's method is best?

Well, no ones really, it's 99% a matter of personal taste and finding which one works best for you. I have heard that if you have a floyd rose floating bridge you shouldn't actually take all the strings off before re-stringing. I guess it has something to do with the tension on the bridge?

But for your average electric guitar you can either do one at a time, or take them all off and then do it, you can leave the strings flopping around at the head of the guitar if you like (I tend to think this looks a little sloppy though).

It's each to their own. So let's take a look at how some others string an electric guitar:

Thanks I didn't realise that taking all the string off made any difference but I just checked it out and you're right.
