How to tell your friend that you want to be more than just friends.  Just tell him.  Just tell her.  this is the 21st Century and there are subtle ways of communication if you are hesitant or apprehensive.  You are not telling the guy or girl that you are in love with them.  You are just telling them that you want to take the friendship level up a notch to the romance level.

You will know if you should or should not tell your friend that you want to take the friendship up to romancing each other.  You can tell by the tone of the conversation and the subject matter.  If you are interested in taking the friendship to the next level, you may want to ask in a friendly manner, What do you think about us having a true romance instead of just being friends?  Ask in such a way that will let him or her have a way out of the conversation without hurting your feelings.  You can accomplish this by using a sense of humor or an understanding response if the answer is not what you wanted to hear.

It is crucial that you analyze your relationship with your j"ust friends pal" before you think of changing the relationship to that of lovers that can cause the two of you to be together forever.  Do not look at the person that you want to make more than friends as a short term consideration.  Think of whether you want to be with that person long term considering the changes that people go through.  Every relationship does not end up in marriage but a romantic relationship means that you will be spending a lot of time together.

Look at how long you have been friends with this person and if the duration has been quite long, then you want to ask yourself why didn't you ask to become more than just friends sooner.  The saying goes that absence makes the heart grow fonder but if the relationship as friends has been on again and off again, then you would not want to make the relationship into anything more.

Again,  if you are not too serious when you ask or hint that you want to take the relationship to another level of more than friendship, your quest will be easier.  If you are very serious when you ask or hint to take the relationship to another level, then you may hurt your feelings as well as your self esteem.  Everyone wants the person that they like or love to love them back with the same feelings.  Sometimes this equation is not in the books.  If the relationship of taking the friendship to another level is not reciprocated, then just let it go.  Depending on how strongly you feel about about  the person either move on or continue with the relationship in its presence state of idealism for the two of you.
