How to Treat and Prevent Diabetes Naturally
69The increase in the number of people diagnosed with diabetes is staggering. There are over ten million people in North America with the disease and another eight million who don’t realize they have it yet. These numbers are going to double in the next twenty years. Diabetes is a disease in which the pancreas is no longer able to produce insulin to control blood sugar levels. The role of insulin is to transport sugar from food to body cells for energy. Diabetes is caused when there is an overload of animal protein throughout the body that interferes with the cells insulin receptors. Glucose is unable to enter the cells, resulting in a buildup of glucose in the bloodstream, which raises blood sugar levels.
Up to recently the recommended diet for diabetics has been red meat, poultry and seafood and low consumption of complex carbohydrates. It is now known that this type of diet only compounds the problem, making it even more difficult to control the disease. To return blood sugar levels to normal, diabetics need to consume a diet that solely consists of raw fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
There are two major types of diabetes which are known as type 1 and type 11. Type 1 is also known as insulin dependent diabetes. Daily insulin injections must be taken to make up for insufficient amounts produced by the pancreas. Children are most commonly affected by this type of diabetes. The cause is either metabolic problems in the parents caused by processed foods, stress and other factors before birth or antibiotics (frequent use is known to wear down the pancreas) and other medications administered to the child at an early age. Research has shown that switching to a diet of raw fruits, grains and vegetable can reduce insulin dependancy by as much as one quarter. Young people have the possibility of regenerating their pancreas in less than a year if all of the disease causing factors have been eliminated.
Type 11 diabetes is also known as non-insulin dependent diabetes and is usually found in adult ages forty and older. In many cases insulin shots are required. This type of diabetes is caused by excess protein on body cell membranes. The best treatment for this type of diabetes is to flush the body of excess protein and restore a healthy metabolism. A diet that consist only of raw plant food and fresh whole grains is the way this is accomplished. Years of eating an unhealthy diet forces the pancreas to make large amounts of insulin, which eventually exhausts it, preventing it from making adequate amounts needed by the body. Unprocessed foods, which are much less expensive than processed foods, are the best way to heal the pancreas and balance blood sugar levels.
Supplements that have been found effective in regulating blood sugar include chromium polynicotinate. It has been found to enable cells to absorb glucose. It is often found together as a supplement with vanadyl sulphate which also has blood stabilizing properties and helps prevent diabetes numbness. Together they work to stimulate insulin production. Other herbal remedies include fenugreek, dandelion, bilberry, gymnema, bitter lemon, cinnamon, panax ginseng, goldenseal and garlic. Diabetes is a serious disease, therefore professional guidance should always be sought before beginning any supplementation program.

I've been reading about this overload of red meat in the American diet - and the relationship to diabetes. Other cultures eat meat but it is miniscule by comparison - hardly the massive slabs and regular consumption of this Western diet that we tend to gorge on.
Many folks I know of different ages are surprised that as an older American, I don't have diabetes or other chronic ailments (well, we're not supposed to but seem to accept it as part of ageing - it's not). The only thing different is my diet - I have not had meat in over 30 years!
How sad we no longer know the nutritional value of food - and how food is meant to keep us healthy - it is not just for chewing. Sigh! Don't get me started!
Thanks for putting this 'meat' information out there.
another positive point for organic (or unprocessed foods) vegetables and fruits.
Great article! This is informative and is very well written.
unfortunately people go to extremes. Dieticians say we need to eat more protein and people run out and eat red meat every day and overload on meat in general. I'm not a big fan of meat so I drink my protein in the form of whey powder. Also proten comes from so many other non-meat sources.

Interesting!
This is the first I've heard of animal proteins compounding the problem. I always thought it was mainly carbohydrates diabetics had to avoid. I wish more Americans took diabetes seriously. Looking around my community I see countless obese children dining at fast-food restaurants with their overweight parents. It makes me wonder if these folks have any understanding of the horrible things this disease does to the body.
Anyways, keep up the good work.
