How to Unclog Clogged Toilet
74Clogged Toilet can be a Misery
Just imagine you are in a hurry and when you go to the toilet, you find it clogged! Oh God!
Your toilet is severely clogged and you are not able to fix it. You don’t have a plunger or wire hanger or any other draining chemical to flush and unclog the toilet. What will happen? Well, water will gush out and spread and flooded all over the bathroom and closet. ! How to unclog a clogged toilet?
Well, to start with, I would say that you should have taken the necessary steps just when it all started. It would have not become such a big problem, had you take the steps at the right time.
Here is what to do to unclog and fix a severely clogged toilet:
How to Repair a Toilet : Using a Plunger on a Toilet
Unclogging a Clogged Toilet
Check if flushing the toilet causes sewage to back up in your bathtub. If this is the case, there is a clog in the main drainpipe or the stack.
You can do it yourself and try to snake this out, but if you don’t have any prior experience, call a plumber.
If the toilet is clogged but not backing up elsewhere, don't flush it or it may overflow. Do following:
1. Remove the tank lid and raise the flapper valve. Allow water to pass through so you can see whether the toilet is really clogged.
2) If the toilet is clogged, try plunging with a bell-shaped plunger. The plunger will help to loosen any clogs.
3) If the plunger doesn't work, try to snake out the toilet with a special closet auger. Make sure you get a toilet snake/auger, as a sink snake/auger will scrape the porcelain on your toilet. Toilet snake is available at most hardware stores and may cost around $15.
4) In case the toilet snake also doesn’t work, take a bucket of warm water and pour it directly into the hole-in-the-bowl from waist-high. The pressure of the water being poured into the bowl may do a good job in unclogging a clogged toilet. You may have to repeat this step a couple of times.
If the problem still persists, call a plumber. NEVER use any chemical as it can deteriorate the piping and cause even bigger problems.

I really can imagine the horror when the toilet clogs, and refuses to unclog. Although the standard procedure is to call a plumber, figuring out how a toilet works in the first place (and in the process avoiding things that clog it) would be a good thing. Good and vivid hub on unclogging a toilet. Now if only more people took it upon themselves to fix their own house problems. :D
Very clear info. I'm into home improvement myself.
